DT-770 microphone mod - microphone question

So I came across the mod (link to thread) that Craigbru did on his DT-770 to convert it into a "headset" by adding a boom mic. I picked up a pair of Darthbeyers just for this purpose.

The question I have is about the boom microphones. Has anyone tried theBoom mic? Would this be overkill? should I just get cheapy headset with a detachable mic?

That seems overkill, I just used a detachable mic from a cheapy headset and it works great.
