Prolines or Denons

I prefer the 750s over the D2000s due to better clarity and a larger soundstage. That being said, some of my CDs from the 60-70s sound better on the 2000s as they mask the recording flaws better. The D2000s also do bass better but I'm not really a basshead. The 750s are less comfortable and ugly as sin but I can't hear ugly.

If I had to get rid of one or the other, the D2000s would go.

Aren't the 750's closed? And their soundstage is better than the open 2500?

Yes they are closed; it was a prereq for office listening. I listen to them daily vs. the denon D2000 (home).

I have no experience with the 2500 but I agree the soundstage *should* be better with 2500s.

The 2500 with a decent source and amp is a damn fine can. I have not heard the 2000 but can say if it's better than the 2500 then it's REALLY good. Mind you the 2500 is a very revealing can so you are limited to good recordings or else will be irritated.

Actually, the soundstage is a bit bigger with the 2500's but I've found instruments to be more accurately placed with the 750's.

You pays your money, and you takes your choice...

Interesting observation as from my memory 750 soundstage was a joke comparing to D2000's, which was on par with good open cans like HD650. May be because ess-logic didn't quite work for me, but I never felt that PL750 soundstage is anything exceptional.

What was your source and amp when you compared them? I think the proline 750s fit between the D2000s and HD650s soundstage-wise and bass-wise. My HPs had ~ 100 hours of pink noise and then an addl 200 hours of regular listening.

the statement that you are in the minority if you have liked the Ultrasone 2500 is vastly incorrect. check out the huge Ultrasone thread and the many (myself included) who have
enjoyed the S Logic presentation of the headphone.

Stello DA100 and Headamp GS-1.
The soundstage was actually the first thing that impressed me with D2000, never expected something that big from closed design.
