What Products Ship With This Sennheiser Wooden Box?

I pre-ordered a pair of HD-580 Precision headphones when they were first released. Having spent more money on headphones than anyone I knew (I was in high school at the time), I told my dealer I was concerned about keeping the headphones protected and wondered if there was some sort of box I could buy for that purpose. He made some calls and told me that Sennheiser didn't sell a box, but that he was able to obtain (and nicely give to me) one of the very boxes Sennheiser used to show them off at the introduction. It had a few scuffs from wear before I received it, which made sense. Whether that's true, I don't know, but it does seem that this is the same box that ships with the HE90 (as seen in images on this site).

Does anyone know what products were sold with this box? The origin doesn't really matter, as I do enjoy using the box, but I'm just curious.

It certainly does look like the Orpheus box. The only problem I've ever had with my HD650 is that the box is absolute crap. I wish they'd shipped that can in a good quality box. It didn't even have to be wood

Thanks for the reply. That was certainly my comment about protecting sensitive equipment that yielded this unit to me in around 1996! I've found over the years that these headphones are extremely durable, though it's best not to find out!

I am pretty sure that box belong to and was sold with the Sennheiser HE90.
Good luck finding one (the box that is)...

Thanks for the info. The box in the picture is mine, so I don't need to find one though. I guess it will just leave my 580s feeling inadequate. Perhaps if someone had a HE90 without a box I would have no choice to buy it to make the proper set.

It's a HE90 box for sure. If it has a Sennheiser logo above the lock on the front it's from the original production line. The new HE90's (like mine) are unmarked. There was at least one other Senn' sold in a wooden box, The HD540 Reference Gold, but the box was smaller and with a different stuffing material.
