Hello.
I have a pair of super.fi 3s that I stopped using once I got some UE 10pros. Then I got an iPhone and wasn't happy with the included ear buds, but wanted to keep the small jack and the included mic. I got the idea of attaching my super.fi's to the iPhone cable. So I took an extra UE cable and cut out the 2 prong connector from the plastic rectangular head. Then I soldered the iPhone cables to the 2 prong connectors and tried to put the rectangular plastic head back on. But I'm new at this and used way too much solder and had to "gut" the plastic head from the inside just to get it to fit and close around the new connector. I used some heat shrink to seal the new plastic head together, but now I'm left with this open hole where the cable enters the plastic head.
I've attached some pictures of the original plastic head (closed around the cable as it exits), and my re-cabling. I was hoping the heatshrink would close around the cable but apparently I didn't buy the correct heatshrink.
Does anyone have any ideas how to close this gap between the connector and the heatshrink? Do I have to do this? Can I just inject something like silicon into the gap? (Also, if anyone knows how to get rid of the lettering on the heatshrink that would be great also.) It sounds great and everything works, but I'm worried about things getting into that gap.
Thanks.
P.S. I know it doesn't make sense to swap decent cables out for cheaper cables, but I wasn't using the super.fi's and the iPhone cable with the smaller jack and included mic was so convenient. Also, I would have no idea how to make my own mic cable.
