My 2005 880's are incredibly controlled and transparent. This trait has made me continuously search for the most analytical source to match! My goal is to leave any intentional coloring to my chosen Amplifiers whether SS or Tube.

How much more bass would one say the 880s have over the k701s? I enjoy my 701s overall sound but i hate the lack of bass. My current number one headphone is the ATH ES7. A jump down but an added plus in a thicker sound, better bass and overall enjoyment of music.

The "highest" model is the one that works best for you. I owned the 880 at one time, but it turned out to be not what I was looking for. The dt990 was much more to my taste.

I would say that there is not so much an increase in bass extension, but there is definitely an increase in the strength of the bass. But it still retains the agility that the k701 has in the lower registers.

If you're looking for the kind of bass that makes hip-hop fans grin or electronica fans grin these are probably not the cans for you. Me, I love this kind of bass. It reminds me of my B&W speakers.

When I listen to Skip Hop & Wobble by Douglas, Berrenberg & Meyer, the double bass is incredibly natural sounding. I have absolutely no trouble at all knowing that this is an acoustic bass playing, and I also get a lot of info about the room in which it is being played. I can hear the woody quality and the transients of each pluck of the strings are wonderfully transmitted.

This is the kind of bass that lets you tell the difference between the kick drum and the bass guitar.

Interesting because I've thought that my DT 880s sound a lot like the B&W CM7s I heard at a showroom. Fairly neutral overall, with smooth and sparkly highs, sweet mids and accurate tuneful bass.

Not surprising, B&W has a long history of striving to make the most musical speakers possible.

Mine are 804s's, and the bass is one of my favorite features. But I am certain that there are people who would find the bass lacking. I like the lower registers to be full and powerful but also taut and firm, and definitelty quick and agile. Not overpowering or boomy. I'll gladly sacrifice extension for control to a certain extent.

How different are those from the 802D's? Because I heard those at the same place as the CM7's and they literally shook the room they were in because the bass was so powerful.

Well, they're about 100 lbs lighter, about $8,000 cheaper, and they're a lot smaller.

But did you notice tha even though the 802D's shook the walls they never lost control? Those speakers are AMAZING!

Those are my PowerBall speakers: If I ever win the PowerBall...

Hmm, very interesting, thanks. Im by no means a bass head, but i do like when there is bass to thicken the overall music. I am mainly a hardcore/metal listening man and with my old excelon setup in my car, i was trying to tweak songs for quick bass but that had a fair amount of slam (esp on the kick drum). With the 701s i was looking for more impact, but not necessarily extension. I have a feeling by your description, while awesome, it may not be what im looking for but at the same time it very well could be...ahhh dilemma
