Beyerdynamic DT880 = Wow! - Page 8

I bought the DT880s 2 weeks ago from Amazon at 258, when I got the heads up here they were down to 208 I just emailed Customer Support and they responded within just a couple of hours they had credited my account 50.00 to honor the 208 price. They have always been good about price protection within 30 days.

Just wondering if anyone can comment on the differences between the DT770/250/2005's and the DT880's (the variety of DT880's sold by HeadRoom in particular)?

I own the DT770's and listen thru a Millet Max which for my ears, sounds really great. I was curious how the sound signature would change with 880's?

DT-880 great price

I think the $208 was a mistake. I ordered them and the next morning the price was up to $299. Mine are suppose to ship on Monday and I waiting to see if Amazon (these were directly from Amazon) tries to say sorry but .....

If they do, I may go for a pair of 990's for $279.

DT-770 versus DT-880

I have never heard the DT-770 so I can offer not advice. However, there is a review on Hi-Fi where the 770s, 880s, and 990s are compared. For me, based on what I have read the 770s are not my style. But I listen to mostly jazz and classical. A lot of people like the DT-770s a lot and you can have the modified by Headphile.

I will search a post the link to the review if you don't find it. Just send me a PM.

Another issue to considering is amping. I think the newer 770s are suppose to work pretty well without an amp. I used the 2003 model DT-880s without an amp some but they work much better with an amp.

A lot of factors to consider. So far, I have been the most disappointed by the HD-650s. They sound great on somethings if being driven by my Cayin tube headphone amp. But I have also spent about $200 on new tubes. Now I like it the 650s with the Cayin for jazz and the type of rock I listen to (classic rock? I am talking Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Santana,U2 type music).

I find headphones to be really different from speakers. Most really good speakers are acceptable for most types of music but to me most headphones do only a few things really well. But what do I know.

990 is a more expensive headphone than the 880. Get your info from Beyerdynamic's website.

I have 600 ohm DT770s and just wanted to add that they sound a lot like what is described, and I'm very happy with them.

EDIT: after reading a few pages, I just want to put out that I have a $100 amp that drives the 600 ohms very well when plugged in via USB or to my zen micro, haven't tried them with any nicer amp.

There's not a lot of info on 600 ohm, so I thought I'd try to get some info out there.

I'm a very happy owner of 600 ohm DT880s. My Millett Hybrid drives them well with the volume at 12:00 and I feel that the tubes are a good match soundwise.

Mostly - I feel that I have to scream this from the rooftops - the synergy of USB Monica, a non-OS DAC using the Philips TDA1545 chip, with the DT880s is remarkable. Perfect fit that has me happier with my music than I have ever been.

where are you coming up with 600 ohm DT 880s and 770s? Is there another version of these I have not seen?

I have a pair of proline DT880s and they are 250 ohm.

The 880s both proline and Pro are 250 ohm ea

The 770 in proline are 250 ohm and in Pro they are 80 ohm.

Mine are custom manufacture from the Beyer site. Custom can be ordered 32, 250 or 600 ohm. In addition, the 600 ohm models are sometimes available in Asia. (For example, Kingsound Audio in HK has the 600 ohm DT990s.) I also think that Meier Audio in Germany was stocking 32 ohm Beyers for a while but he no longer sells phones.

Price difference between DT-880 and DT-990

Right now the DT-990 is $259.00 plus $5.80 shipping from Amazon (sold through Full Compass). This is the premium not the pro model. As I posted earlier, I purchased my DT-880s from Amazon for $208 last week but they are now $299 from Amazon direct.

I have looked for the best price on the DT-990 and DT-880 for the past month and usually you can get the 990s for about $20 more than the 880s. I would say the typical price has been $269 to $279 for the 880's and around $299 for the 990s. Of course if you look at list prices the difference is probably greater.

I would have purchased the 990s for $259 but when I bought the 880s for $208, the best price I saw for the 990s was $279.

If you can used google and are willing to shop around then you can find bargins. For example, I purchased my Cayin HA-1A for less than $700 including shipping. It was shipped directly from the distributor with the full warranty, and was purchased from an authorized dealer.

What I won't do is buy something on-line and ship it back because I find it used or at a better price. "When you live outside the law, you must be honest." Bob Dylan

Interesting, thank you cooperpwc for the clarification.

Guitar Center doesn't sell the DT880s - they are no where on their site.

Yes my son the DT880 is mindblowing to say the least.
I found the can of my dreams with these too.
There is nothing and i mean nothing that comes close to the superb clarity and downright sexy sound that these give you.
I payed £199 for mine just over a year ago and they are without doubt the best can i have ever purchased.
And i would not hesitate in buying another pair.
Just incredible....No Perfect!

I purchase mine recently for $208.00 directly from Amazon. Watch their pages because they sometimes have crazy prices. DT-990s were $259 last time I looked.
