I actually enjoy the sound directly out of my nano 2nd gen with no amp (minibox D) using 192k and greater mp3s.
Well here's the thing. I love the sound I get out of my PX100w for portable use. Not as good as my desktop setup, but for portable use it's good enough. It's good enough that i'm involved with the music. My only complaint is that they are a little bulky and don't isolate that much. So naturally I want a nice little IEM.

The SE530 was almost as involving for me, though it was technically much more refined. I know, it's a sin to say that a 40$ headphone involves me more than a 450$ earphone...... but........... alas, that's just how I am. The problem with all these armature based IEMs is that they are just way to technical and boring for me.

I think we are years away from having a 40$ IEM that can match the enjoyment I get out of my 40$ senns.

Be that as it may, why should a $500 pair of IEMs match the bloated/"involving" bass character of the $40 Senns? To each his own (I have the PX100s, and while I love them, they don't come close in any respect to the enjoyment I get from my maligned-by-you SE310s), but I think your expectations/interests might not match up with the market Shure is aiming for in their IEMs. That's fine, but a little research would probably have indicated that to you at the outset.

There are a lot of fun headphones out their that will isolate better than the PX100s, and you might like them much more than these or any other high-end "audiophile" IEM. No need to spend a ton of money on IEMs that emphasize neutrality if you don't want neutrality. There's nothing at all wrong with what you're looking for, but it's a little ridiculous to go for something like the SE530s when there are way cheaper alternatives for you. The SE530 isn't meant to sound like a PX100, and you shouldn't really slag it (or the SE310 that matter) for not delivering on your expectations.

No offense, but your last few reviews make you seem like someone who will buy a K1000 for bragging rights when you really would be fine with a K81DJ. No, no, that's coming across rather bitchy. Sorry. Sort of.

Ah, but you see, that's the thing. I don't review products, I just state my initial impressions as I see it. People take from it what they will.

Cheers mate.

How about Denon C700 or SF5EB?.

towert7 if you can hear an im716 in bass mode I think you would really like them. They don't sacrifice much detail from HD mode, and the bass mode boosts the mid to upper bass and brings some of the midrange more forward.

However they still sound very close to the ER4 in HD mode.

Can't speak for the SE530, but I was not a fan of the E500. I prefer the ER4p and Altec Lansing im716 to them.

Anyway I appreciate the honest impressions
