HD580 headband broke :(

well, I noticed there was a crack in my headband I kept using it knowing one day it was going to break. well I took my headphones off to go to sleep and they snapped I was horrified wondering if I could still use them or if they were done. I soon found out I could wear them but it didn't fit snug and the gap was affecting the comfort. I now have my left ear side at the tightest setting and my right at normal.

I figured I'd order a headband but I thought maybe I should order a HD600 headband I've heard there made out of a lighter and tougher material. What do you guys think? they don't make HD580 jubilee headbands anymore right?

Gear mentioned in this thread:

iirc all the headbands are made of the same material just painted/decorated differently

if you have the jubilee HD580 then yeah =\ parts are rare and expensive, most are shared with the HD580/HD600 but i think the headband is one part that isn't shared

really I heard the HD600 headband was different and I am pretty sure the HD580 is carbon fiber at least that's what it looks like :P

I had the same problem with my HD580. The headband snapped cleanly in the middle and it was practically not usable. I contacted the support at Sennheiser USA and RMAed the phones (3 yr warranty). They actually shipped me a brand new set for FREE... You may want to try that, but I heard the 580s are no longer in production. Perhaps you'll get a free 600 instead... :P

HD 580 headband is plastic.

I guess I'll take super special care not to damage my HD600 for sure. They have a special meaning to me me and a new replacement pair is not an option if they failed.

I would be curious though. I wonder if there is a commonality in the failure mode? Like trying to relieve the clamp by placing them around a stack of books, or a basketball, or anything like that?

.....I haven't a problem with mine being too tight, so that's cool.

Wait...are you allowed to order headbands? Do you just have to call Sennheiser cause I don't see it on their shop.

yeah it shouldn't be a problem ordering them or I may even be able to get one for free I don't think I've owned these headphones for 3 years.

I had the same problem with a pair of HD485's they where maybe 6 months old when the left side of the band cracked. I had to go through quit the ordeal to get them fixed, all in all it took about 13 long distance phone calls, about 5 hours of hold time and a month and a half to get a replacement pair of HD485's

If your can's are under 2 years old you can try getting them replaced/repaired by Sennheiser under warranty.

I ordered my HD580 @ Amazon on January 20, 2007 so there still under warranty. they are now discontinued also though I should be able to get a free headband.

In one of my many phone calls Sennheiser told me it wasn't "cost effective" to replace the headband and they where just sending me a new pair of headphones, but they where back ordered hence the month and a half wait. I don't know maybe with a discontinued model they will send you a headband.

Been there, done that!

Sennheiser replaced the HD650 head band immediatly.

Great company. Great headphone.
