closed K701??

Hey All,

I'm just wondering what the best candidate for a closed version of the K701 is. I don't feel it's the D2000 as lots of people liken it to a closed version of the HD650 or DT990 and not so much the K701. Could it be the W5000? Basically something great with classical/jazz/acoustic-non-processed things and relatively decent with everything else (incl movies).

Thanks!

Not Beyers... AT is your best bet.

sorry to be a bugger, but does anyone have more specific suggestions?

and to be more specific myself

i also want the tone quality to be very natural - one thing that's still bothering my about the K701 is that is has a slight feeling on sounding artificial compared to the K501 - other than that i love it

so closed, natural sounding, high detail/resolution, relatively airy, great instrument separation/placement, great soundstage, no overdone bass, great with classical/jazz/acoustic things, listenable with everything else, hopefully great with movies as well - and by closed i mean no leakage, but i dont care about isolation

High end AT's tilt the response to the treble similar to the 701.

Sorry, I haven't heard anything higher up in the AT line than my A900's. My imagination tells me that a better A900 would be like a closed K701.

Sounds like the K340s to me, but you know how that might go

The A/T ATH AD2000 is a closed phone with sound generally quite close to the DT880. Trebles and bass are identical, but these are more "rockin'" and less suited for classical. They're also outstanding for Japanese music, which seems to be voiced to this phone.

Part of the K701 sound signature is transparency that comes from an open design. In short, looking for a "closed" K701 might prove challenging.

K340s (modded or stock) sound nothing like K701. Modded K340s are one of my favorite headphones (love those rich, clear mids), and the K701s are one of my least (excellent detail but dry, and thin bass). Also, for closed headphones, the the K340s leak badly, even with new pads, so I don't think the OP wants to go this direction.

When did AD2000 become closed?
BTW W5000 remotely resembles DT880 sound signature with fuller bass and less dryness, and is closed.

Although the W5000 is closed, I don't find it very isolating at all. It leaks as much as K701.
