Well, between the K701 and K340, I know I will go for the latter myself. It also happens to be (FAR) more power-hungry.

TTT for more opinions. Come on everybody has one

Any phone besides the HP-1.
Its a classic headphone which imo should be kept in original configuration. Especially if it have the Ultra-Wide Bandwidth cable.

So I voted for the GS1000...

Yeah I have been leaning towards keeping the original cable on the HP-1 and just reterminating it with Neutrik HD-XLR's ... so many decisions, so little time

I seriously doubt the Ultra Wide Bandwidth cable is the be all and end all for the HP-1. The reason people think that is because hardly anybody has ever recabled (hence nobody knows if any other cable is better) it, for whatever reason, and it has become somewhat of a cult.

You are aware, you can recable it and save the ultra-wide cable in case you don't like the new one? Hell you could probably sell the cable alone for quite a bit of money due to the cult like following. Now I'm not saying headphone cults are bad, as I am involved in a few myself, just wated to get this out there ... OK I'm done now.

The 701 seemed like the hardest to drive and would benefit from balanced mode more...

i myself am a fan of the grados

Voted for the K701.
The Grados cables seems tough enough. The K701 looks a bit more fragile ...

Good point. Actually mine does not have UWB cable and I do not think that cable is the absolute best. My thought is that I will have it reterminated because I like the way it sounds now and I am interested in hearing the difference with balanced connectors on the original cable. I may later recable (and save the original cable). Go slowly and savor the sound .....

just recable/reterminate everything. i suspect that every headphone benefits from balanced operation.

That's the plan, since I suspect the same thing, but I have to start somewhere

Well I decided and I went with the second most popular choice, the K340's. IMO these are the most power hungry cans I own, even compared to the K701's, plus the unmodded pair I have do not sound as good as my headphile modded pair. Thus they get essentially no listening time anymore. So I'm getting a balls-to-the-walls balanced and woodied headphile mod with an XLR-RCA adapter thrown in for yucks-and-grins. It will be interesting to hear these balanced on the GS-X, but according to Larry it will probably be a while.

that is one of the few headphones i have yet to hear. and balanced would certainly be a treat. the wait will be worth it.
