Upgrade time?

Hey peeps!

I've been in this music madness for a while. My rig right now is a humble AV710 to my reciever digital cable. I was wondering what people thought about upgrading this card. Gaming is not important. However a regular headphone type jack is required.

I also do truely hate Creatives drivers and try to keep them off my system as much as possible.

I know the AV710 pushs 20bit digital and not 24. Just wondering if upgrading to possibly even an M-Audio Revolutions would be better.

That's only true for the 5.1 outputs. The Alt. Out. jack on the back comes from the separate Wolfson DAC which presumably was the reason you bought the card. It's capable of 24-bit/192kHz. See: Wolfson WM8728 specifications.

Here's a setup thread to be sure that you're using the card at its full capability.

would I see better performance if I ran a cable from the wolfson dac's to the reciever RCA's?

Oh, sorry, I missed that in the original post.

By sending a digital signal to the receiver, you're not using the sound card's built-in DACs--you're using the receiver's DACs. Realistically, no sound card upgrade will help if you plan to use that method.

Some receivers have decent DACs, so they may end up sounding better than running analog output from your sound card to the receiver. If that's the case and you want to improve sound quality, you might consider an upgrade.

Debating a Juli@ since reviews around here are almost sickening.

This would probably redo the way I wire somethings...perhaps doing an RCA type style instead. Any thoughts?

Great post... i was kinda wondering if there was any ideas about a certian headphone that would be good for a computer? I have a rather older pair and just been looking around for info?

Depends on your sound card, musical taste, sound signature preference, and budget.
