SOLD: Firestone Audio Big Joe v1.3 + extras. Great K-1000 amp.

Up for sale is Firestone Audio Big Joe V1.3 amplifier.

In like new condition with about 100 hours on it. Comes with all original paperwork, box, parts, tool, etc.

By far the absolute best of the 'budget' level amps I have heard for the AKG K1000s. At low listening levels, I could hardly tell the difference between the Big Joe and the Aleph 3 when driving my K1000s. With the proper opamp rolled in, it has a warm tube-like sound. And it also makes a killer amplifier for efficient loudspeakers.

I am also including 2 of my favorite opamps for the Big Joe (in addition to the stock opamp that Big Joe shipped with).

Opamps included:
BB OPA2604 (stock)
BB OPA2227
AD827AQ

I am also throwing in an opamp puller and a power cord (which wasn't originally included).









I paid around $270 for the amp, opamps, opamp puller and power cord.

My asking price is $215 (firm) shipped to anywhere within the CONUS, paypal fees included.

Sorry, but I am only willing to ship to locations within the CONUS.

If I wanted to use this with, say, a Grado, how would I go about doing that? I don't see a headphone out..

Sorry, it isn't a conventional headphone amp, it is a loudspeaker amp. As such, there is no easy way to plug a conventional pair of headphones terminated to a 1/4 or 1/8inch stereo plug into the Big Joe without heavy modifications to the amp and possibly the headphone cord termination.

The AKG K-1000 headphones are VERY unconventional, and are a special beast. They need gobs of juice to be driven properly, and they were designed to be hooked up directly to the speaker terminals of a power amplifier. As such, the K-1000s can indeed be plugged into the Big Joe (speaker terminals), and the results a very impressive.


So in summary:

The Big Joe in stock form was intended to power loudspeakers, but since the AKG K-1000s are 'special' they can easily be plugged into (and powered by) the Big Joe amplifier.

Definitely did. I plan on getting a K1000 (someday) when I can afford one or someone's willing to do some trading with me. I think I saw this at a meet once and it seems to be a very reasonable price for the amp.

Bump.

It is highly unlikely that you will find a better sounding amp for the K-1000s within the price-range of my asking price for the Big Joe.

And yes, I owned the Trends Audio TA-10.1 as well, and I think the Big Joe sounded better.

You plug them right into the speaker terminals with either banana plugs, or screw the bare wires directly to the speaker terminals.

The K-1000s are hooked up to the Big Joe just like they are any other power amplifier.
