Ahhhh, seafood. How about the old saying: If it tastes good it can't be good for you. Well, seafood is "One" of the only things you can say "if it tastes good, it is good for you". Now thats saying a

Yellow mustard like gooy that often found in steamed crab is... well... I wouldn't mind you eat it, but I wouldn't eat it myself.

They were raised specially to have so much roe in them. The more the better. Some people are so crazy about it you can buy the roe from this crab in a jar. Not every species of crab has such golden yellow, aromatic roe.

Yup. they're all phylum arthropods , which includes spiders scorpions centipedes millipedes, etc.

However, they are damn delicious, and the other insects that we find gross are also considered delicacies in other cultures!

The above is just my beliefs but I do believe contaminants are at higher concentrations in fat compared to meat.

A valid effect called biomagnification. But somebody somehow always find everything harmful. There's a saying... "eat and you die... dont eat and you die.." so might as well

I forgot about crab season! Time to dig out the pots (and the boat). Pity two of my favorite spots are under a red tide warning...

Thanks for the unintentional reminder! Anyone going out for shrimp as well, or fishing the marine 8-2 or admiralty inlet areas?

Where in SoCal do you live? You aren't trying very hard if you can't get great seafood here. Although you'll have to specify what "spend a fortune" dollar amount is for you.

Well, it is alot easier to find great sushi than shellfish, though.

Oh, c'mon, share with your Head-fi family, at least!

My favorite (but expensive) crab joint is the Crab Pot in Seal Beach.

I don't know if its just me or what but I've always felt that the western way of cooking and preparing crab simply looses out to the way asians do it. Ok, no hard feelings or whatsoever, but simply from a food enjoyment kind of perspective, there's so many different methods of preparation and stuff that goes into making asian seafood. If you've ever been to Hong Kong, Singapore or Taiwan, you'll probably know what I'am talking about. Steamed crabs let you taste the original flavour but i find it too bland and boring...

What's QFT ?? Oh, chilli crab's pretty good but its a little too sweet for me. Prefer Black pepper crab. And in hong kong, they have those stir fried with leek and some other stuff. great stuff man!
