Plans for iPhone support?

Really enjoying the new iPhone but disappointed that my ALO Silver Cryo doesn't work so can't enjoy with my RSA Tomahawk. Am wondering is there is a plan to produce iPhone compatible versions or better yet mod existing ones so they support both iPod and iPhone.

Thanks

We do very much want to make a solution for the iPhone, me and Vinnie over at Red Wine Audio have had this discussion. However it is somewhat on the back burner at the moment. Any local people in Portland Oregon who has a iphone what to lend me a hand on this?. I am also working on the pinouts of the phone. Please stay tuned and Britbonic thanks for the post.

Thanks Ken. I doesn't appear to work with any of the line out devices I have - ALO, Turbodock, Slik - yet iPhone dock has a line out. Also, have heard of other items like speakers that use the line out but work ok. Doubt that apple would have changed the pinouts for line out. More likely there is some sort of handshake that happens using other pins that enables lineout, especially since iPhone has built in speaker unlike iPod.

The one thing I didn't like about the Iphone was the reccessed headphone plug. This makes you buy an adaptor and increse the number of connections if you wish to use another headphone.

A great thing you could do would be "re-pluging" service for IEMs if people wanted to use them directly with the iphone. There should be some plug in the market that fits the iphone...

Good call MASantos, oh yet another pun!

I really have to buy a iPhone and get on this. I was going to buy one and start but found out that you have to activate it in order to use the ipod feature, doh! I have a few months left on my Tmobile contract before I am cut loose. I might just bite the bullet.

Has anyone tried an iPhone with the cables after the 1.01 update? I have read in other forums that the update fixed other accessories. I don't have a line out/amp so I can't try it from here....

Well, I don't have an ALO cable, but my Sik Din cable DOES NOT work after the update to 1.01. I've heard that some other line out cables do work (i.e. Belkin), but apparently it was not an across the board fix.

Same result for SendStation PocketDock... and whatever assembly of parts it is I have rigged up to my car.

I think Britbonic hit the nail on the head here. It appears that if the iPhone sees that something is being done with the line-out (i.e., going to an internal amp for powered speakers), it will route the sound that way and bypass the built-in speaker. However, on passive line-out devices like ALO or Sik or PocketDock, the iPhone doesn't "see" anything happening with the line-out, so it refuses to send the signal that direction and routes the sound to the built-in speaker. It's frustrating, but I can understand why Apple set it up that way. The internals of the iPhone dock should have what ALO or any other passive line-out manufacturer needs to make this work.

I wonder if the next generation iPods (to be announced next week?) will have ports that behave like the iPhone's.

I hope not.

i am surprised no one has fixed this yet..esp with all the line out guys we have on these boards.

one part of me thinks everyone is waiting for someone else to find it then post the fix and another part thinks everyone is waiting for some magical fix from Apple.

either way I really want the iphone but if i can not use it with my portable setup its useless. i would be pissed if i would of bought the iphone and have a needed portable rig and still no fix yet.

Anyone hear anything else about this anywhere else?
there has to be something being worked on now..

To answer the phone?

I think (hope, pray) that the issue could be the fact that it's a phone. The crazy headphone jack (which sounds horrible) is also used so you can answer the phone if a call comes in while you are listening to tunes. What if you need a dock that would let you do that. Go phone->dock->adapter->mini to mini->amp->IEMs. If a call comes in you can hit the button on the adapter (as with the Shure adapter) and answer the phone. That is a lot of links in the chain, though. As usual we aren't getting help from Apple on anything.

I have been having this problem with the iPhone lineout not working with my ALO docks. I just stumpled upon a couple threads, including this one, that have made me realize that this isn't just my isolated problem. Can one damage the pins on the iPhone connector by simply attaching a Jumo Cyro Dock to the iPhone?
