ipod shuffle what makes it sound sooo good??

Hi

I have an Samsung YP-Z5 which I thought sounded good and the other day a friend came by with this tiny thing and I laughed, well the laugh was on me. I said let me plug in my Senn HD 650's just to see, to say the least I was blown away and that's with no amp. The sound quality was night and day compared to the YP, the volume was much better also. I have heard that out of all the Ipod's the Shuffle sounds the best.

What is in this little thing?

Just to clarify, that's the 1st Gen Shuffle, right?

I don't know which Shuffle (1st or 2nd generation) you are referring to, but here's an article praising the SQ of the original Shuffle, and the reasons why it sounds so good. This may or may not apply to the newer Shuffle........maybe someone more technically knowledgeable can chime in on this.
Hope this helps.

Bill Machrone did a piece on this in 2005 and demonstrated what Apple did with the first gen unit of the shuffle. It was by far the best sounding unit he tested. He showed objectivity why it sounded as it does as discuss in his article and shown in the paper below that link:

Very good reading.

1st gen: long white rectangle, all smooth with a usb plug on the end (covered by plastic fitting in with the rest of the unit).

2nd gen: metallic colours, squareish with a clip on the back.

Hope this helps

1st gen is the white plastic gum stick thing, 2nd gen is the aluminium ones

1st Gen
2nd Gen

I'm pretty sure the great SQ only comes with the 1st Gen. Now if only they could get gapless on this thing it would be the (near) perfect flash player.

1st gen is a great sounding ipod. actually paired with K26P (which are not widely appreciated) it sounds amazing with no amp. Its a great setup if you just need to grab something quick and easy. The 26p give just enough isolation to keep the world away and the 1Gen makes them sound very good.

Another good combo is the Yuin PK1.

To answer the thread title:

An accident in design. They did not make this mistake again I think.

My ultra-portable is composed of the 1st Gen Shuffle + iBasso T2 + PK1.

How much design differance is there between gens 1 and 2 if you know?

Thanks

Sorry I can't make that assessment since I don't have the 2nd Gen.
