Beresford TC-7510 DAC - Page 3

There is this company in Germany that can do one-off front panels, which you design with their own free software. They are HERE.
If I can find a good solid instrument case that the call a eCASE, and that is 220mm wide, I am going to design my own front and back and put my TC-7510 PCB in it. If anyone knows of a 220mm wide one-piece case let me know.

And what is crazy is that when a great product comes out at a good price we cry conspiracy. But if a company puts out a great product with a huge markup, no customer service and ships the thing out next fiscal quarter we treat them like Gods.

BTW I agree the HP out is very good. If someone was looking at this and could not decide between a DAC or a HP amp this would suffice for both. I am listening to MS-2 off of the HP out and they sound great.

Price does not guarantee a better product. Anyone here heard of Bose? I have never done a direct comparison, but price is not a way to gage performance. I would be interested in results of a blind test between the Benchmark and the Bereford to see people's impressions based on performance not price influenced placebo.

There's really no point in comparing anything if you use price-point as the basis for argument. We all know that there are numerous over-priced audio products out there, monster, bose etc, and we all know that there are companies who offer numerous bang-for-the-buck products, little dot etc. Low-cost and high-performance products are not the act of mercy or favours from companies selling these things; they are, in fact, a survival technique for smaller companies. Someone needs to appeal to the market for price- conscious and performance-demanding consumers.

It's like that with many things. Think of wine for example - you can pay $10 for a decent bottle but you can also pay $100 for a mediocre bottle. Some people with modest means can decorate a house so that it's warm and inviting while others with unlimited cash can fill a house with expensive objects yet never manage to "get it right". Or how about low budget movies that are entertaining vs 300 million dollar blockbuster "snoozefests".

I recall a Maria Muldaur song from the 70's "...it ain't the meat, it's the motion, that makes this mama want to rock"

I think this goes along with what been said...

Great quote and well said!

There have been several rumours on a UK forum for a couple of months now about a more expensive version to satisfy those who wish to spend more. I have asked if it is true, but was told there is no such product yet.
What I was once asked to test out was a very small footprint DAC about the size of a SB3 that was designed for desktop use in confined spaces. But I heard that project was scrapped since it wouldn't have been expensive enough to satisfy the critics. A shame really since it is a nice little unit. I got some pics about. I'll see if I can get permission to post one if anyone is interested.

I received this DAC earlier this week. Hooked it up to my Pure i20 as transport with iPod Nano as source, going into a Maverick A1 and a Marantz 1090.

All I can say is, this DAC is a piece of rubbish. I spent around $200 to get it and it is an absolute piece of crap. It actually sounds worse than the built-in DAC of the i20, improves nothing in the audio chain, and is just a big ugly black brick that uses up more space and electricity in return of more lifeless sound.

I hate all of you who actually say this is a bang for the buck DAC. I didn't believe all that hyperbole and undercover marketing/shilling that it's better than the DAC1, but I thought that the people saying it was a marvelous, wonderful sounding DAC for the price were at least believable.  I hate to say it, but I think you people need to clean your ears, this is an absolutely worthless and useless component that does nothing in the chain and is vastly inferior even just to the modest Cirrus Logic DAC in the i20.

I am putting this up in the For Sale column and I hope there is someone who actually wants it, because it's really, really bad.
