Beresford TC-7510 DAC

I was recommended this DAC a couple days ago by another HF-er and I thought it worth mentioning that Stanley is still shipping them to the states if interested. Due to a new shipping tax in England he has to charge a little more (they are 190 shipped to the US) but he has been awesome to work with- answers questions immediately.

This is my first DAC so I am excited to see how it will effect my iMac to LD2++.

If anyone else has one of these, please list your opinions...

I've had the Mark IV for a couple of months now and my opinion is that for the price you can't go wrong. I also have a Paradisea which, compared to the Beresford, is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship and with the right tube has a bit better soundstage and is better at "smoothing out the edges" but then again it costs 3X as much.
In a budget system, you probably won't notice much of a difference between the two. Right now I'm using the Beresford for my STB and the Paradisea for everything else(SB3, DVD player, etc) but could easily live with just the Beresford if ever I ran into cash flow problems.

I really want this DAC. I just don't have the money right now.

I have a question...DACs in general will usually yield the least improvement after headphone and amp upgrades, right? I.e. they're more for "tweaking" the sound than wholly improving it? I'm only asking because money is tight in college and I feel like I've upgraded enough for the time being. If the improvement is subtle, I feel like I should really just enjoy my current setup for a while before buying another component. Any opinions?

I bought my first DAC to tame the upper-mids and improve detail on my speaker system. I bought my second DAC as a reference point - to see, for myself, how well my first DAC compared to a more expensive NOS tube DAC.

... and what did you find with the upgrade. Worth it.

Still too early to say - I just got the Paradisea today. Differences are subtle but first impressions are that, like others have stated, it makes a lot of the music just a bit easier to listen to. For now my amp is the bottleneck in my system. Once that is taken care of I'll be able to better evaluate the rest. But summer is here so I shouldn't be tweaking(spending) for a while.

I've been listening to the Paradisea for a couple of days now with various tubes and a decent power cable(at first I only had a $2.50 unshielded cable) and it's definitely growing on me. Listened to some Jacky Terrasson with Cassandra Wilson, Céu, old King Crimson and a few other things with vocals this morning and...well...let's just say it's a keeper. I've tried a few different tubes and so far, as expected, the Bendix 6385 is tops. I've got a Tungsol 5670 on it's way but I doubt it'll better the 6385. No regrets.
But like I said, for the price, the Beresford is a no brainer.

I ordered a TC-7510 MK-V. Will pick it up at the post office tomorrow.
I'm curious to know if, and by much it's better than my soundcard.
I'll post a comparison later.

Thanks for that... well that makes me optimistic as I will be using it primarily with my HD 595s and LD2++ which he used specifically to great results.

I also like the idea that it has 2 rca outs, while others seem to have just 1 set. This way I can route another set of RCA cables to my home amp and speakers.

I thought that they were out of stock, but I just checked and you are right.

When I researched this DAC on the net a while ago something didn't seem quite right. I don't have anything to back it up, but it seemed like there was a fair amount of undercover marketing going on in various audio communities.
