different tip sizes really didn't mean much to me, because they were so soft and unsubstantial that I never got a good seal.
I made a quick mod that solved the problem of bad seal = bad sound. I pulled the tips off, and wrapped the part that attaches to the phone (sits between the phone and the flange touching your ear) with enough thin strips from a Brawny paper towel that just about filled all the open space. That packing/padding provided enough structure behind the flanges to provide a snug fit in my ear canal. I think by stuffing stuff in that open area (I've used cotton with my Shure E4C, too) I made the medium sized tips become true medium sized tips - not tips that LOOKED medium, but pretty much collapse and do no sealing in the ear canal.
The stuffing rarely pops out. I can think of two times that it popped out, and I use these earphones almost every day at work. When the stuffing did pop out, it had been stuffed in the open space for so long, that it maintained its shape so it was very easy to put the stuffing back where it belonged.
These earphones are really, really good once you can get a good seal. I wanted to share what I did because it was a no-cost solution that made my purchase one of the better audio-related purchases I have made.
