Soundcards: X-Fi Confusion...

Sorry if this topic is brought up a lot, but I've been searching the forums and I just got more confused...

So, I want to know what the difference between the different models of X-Fi's. I was thinking about getting the XtremeMusic, which is the cheapest full-sized model. If we go up to the next card, which I think is the fatality professional (w/o the front panel). After that there's the fatality card with the panel, and then the Elite Pro card.

Besides the X-Ram, what's the difference as you go up the product line-up? Do the components get a lot better? I'm trying to figure out what the "sweet spot" would be for me, in terms of price/quality. I'm not a huge fan of the front panel, especially because you have to route a ribbon cable from the card to the front of the case, so that's not really something that I care about...

Any suggestions? Thanks...

The only "better" X-fi is Elite Pro. The worst one is Xtreme Audio, which is just a rebadged Soundblaster Live!. Everything else sounds the same. X-RAM has no effect on sound quality, but may become more useful as more games take advantage of it.

Oh, and I personally find the front panel very convenient.

well I can get the XtremeMusic for about $70, which sounds pretty reasonable to me. I'm glad I asked this question before I got one of the fatality versions that cost $150. Is Xram the only thing that is different between those two cards? I'm surprised that the price difference is so high...

Pretty much...the price is also elevated because it has the fatal1ty sponsor name on it.

While I can't agree with kamal007 100%, don't get the cheapest card, but get the XtremeMusic definitely. Then mod it or have someone mod it for you. I actually had soloz2 buy my card from creative, mod it and send it to me. It was a great transaction and the card works awesome.
