Now I've been offered them at similar prices....1580$.....so I don't know which one to buy?

I've read some very positive reviews on the Stello.

Narry a bad word has been spoken about the stello 220 mk2.. however, my own experience with it is very limited (showrooms).

I vote for the Bel Canto Dac-3. (frankly the stello doesn't have particularly well extended treble).

Now I've made up my mind.....the first step in my up-grade momentum has started.......the Stello dac and now........the Apache or rpx or gs-x

regardless of choice of headphone amp, you're going to have a very nice headphone set up.

Eddie Current Zana Deux for $1900? I haven't listened to it before, but have read so many positive reviews of it. If I were to buy blind based on what others have said, it would come down to the Zana Deux and the Apache. I have used Ray Samuels products before and I like their lack of sound colouration & absolutely stunning build quality. Apparently, both of them work well with the HD650.

of course you are making the assumption that SE sounds as good as balanced.
