I use sylvania VT231s as my favorite tube in my Cary 300sei.WE300bs as outputs.

I use 1940s Sylvania VT-231, too, and love them. The tubes have such a natural ease--no hardness or grain--that it blows me away. There's also plenty of extension on both ends and plenty of detail. I've tried numerous others, NOS and current production, and none have come close.

Might have to look into some 231's. I would also like to listen to some ECC33=CV2821 at some point.

my current set is - NOS RCA 6SN7GTB - (60's I think)

Cheers,

I can't comment on the Cary specifically, but I own and have tried a lot of the common/popular 6SN7 types. I really like the Brimar CV1988 best, but they are about $200/pair. A nice bargain is the Raytheon 6SN7WGT, great sounding and can usually be had for $50/pair if you are patient. The Ken-Rad black-glass VT-231 are also very, very nice.
