Can a 40 watt amp power a 100 watt amp via auxiliary?

I'm asking this on behalf of a friend - I really don't know what he's asking.

speaker cabinet? does that mean he has active speakers (ie speakers with built in amps) or are they just 100w speakers? if the latter, that's simply the MAX power that the speakers can handle without blowing up. a 40w amp should be fine (that said, i dont know what auxilary speaker output on a guitar amp is)

i think he wants to use a 40W amp to power a 100W amp.
