AKG K240 Sextett--Grado'd AKG? - Page 12

No distortion or anything, and its the same volume on both sides? Only thing I can think of would be a punctured passive radiator or something like that.

I've never been charged any extra shipping for orders broken up into multiple packages. The invoices in each partial shipment usually just list some fraction of the original shipping charge as the freight for that particular box. It is funny to receive a tiny washer sealed two layers deep in ziplock bags and wrapped in bubblewrap though.

You still haven't resolved that problem with the overcharge? I don't know what the deal is there, as it wasn't any problem for me to get something like that dealt with. I had an unexpected charge that came right after a legit charge for another order one time, and me and Frank both verified that it didn't match up to any of my orders and wasn't supposed to be there, and it was refunded immediately. Have you tried checking on getting it resolved now that the system is finally running smoother?

There is no distortion or anything, and the volume is same on both sides. Just no bass at all from the left channel. Could one or two damaged passive radiators make the bass disappear completely?

With speakers if there is a leak from front to back the bass will be cancelled out, probably the same for headphones

If the pads are worn out / damaged it may have a broken seal on that side, so for the hell of it try swapping the pads and see if it still sounds that way. Otherwise there is the possibility that it's a driver problem or a puncture in one of the passive radiators.

Fitz, when you say the system is running smoother does that mean it would be possible for me to order some parts now and get it within 4 months? I want to get some K240DF parts but I'll only be at this dorm until school ends...

You have a much better chance now than you would've a few months ago. If for whatever reason they were backordered for that long though, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to just call in and have the order updated with a new address.

I haven't placed the order yet but thanks for the info. Despite taking 2 months, buying K701 pads from Frank wasn't a bad experience at all; he was eager to help me out all the way.

I tried the K271 velour pads from my K340 even though it was pretty clear they weren't the right fit for the Sextett. I don't think the sound was right either.

I decided to try a different approach, namely Audio-Technica W100 pads. The fit is nearly perfect - I had no more trouble getting them on than with the W100 or W2002. Since I don't quite have a sense for ideal Sextett sound, I can't really comment in detail on any changes there except to say that nothing obvious sticks out yet. I can say that comfort is improved over both the K271 and soggy K240 pads.

Today I put pads from K240S on the sextett and it still sounded the same. I guess it's a driver/passive radiator problem.

That sucks.

If you want, you could send them to me and I'll take a look at them to diagnose the problem; just send me a PM.

I've searched but I'm coming up empty. How do I remove the little access panels to get to where the lower part of the elastics are attached? I want to avoid snapping something important.

Take the metal logo badges off first, then all will become clear.

Something boring for you to look at

K340 vs. K240 Sextett

Resolution: K340 >> Sextett
Intricate music in which hearing everything is mission critical: K340 >> Sextett
Rock/Pop: K340 <<< Sextett
Euphony: K340 > Sextett
Bass: K340 << Sextett (quality that's often too light vs. satisfaction that's not always quite right)
Soundstage: K340 >> Sextett
Separation: K340 > Sextett
Fun: K340 << Sextett
Comfort: K340 > Sextett
Isolation: K340 >>> Sextett
Tonal accuracy: K340 > Sextett
Tonal weight: K340 << Sextett

Juana Molina - Micael: K340 >>>> Sextett
Bic Runga - Honest Goodbyes: K340 = Sextett (both sound good, and both reveal some major distortion in the recording)
Blonde Redhead - 23: K340 <<< Sextett
Dalek - Abandoned Language: K340 > Sextett
Broken Social Scene - Swimmers: K340 <<< Sextett
Anat Fort - Just Now, Var I: K340 >> Sextett
Band of Horses - The General Specific: K340 <<< Sextett
Albert Hammond, Jr. - Hard to Live: K340 <<< Sextett
Annuals - Brother: K340 << Sextet
