Ultrasone PROline 2500 -VS- RS1&K701 ??

Curious...

How does the PROline 2500 stack up against the RS1 and K701?

I'm looking for something with the detail resolution and soundstage of the K701.... but with the Grado "slam" (bass boost, forward/dynamic mids). What I don't want is something like the 03' DT770 with its recessed lower-midrange.

My Ultrasone 2500's have the slam and wide dynamic frequency range, but they do not have the sense of subtle soundstage realism that my AKG 701's do.

That said, both are fine headphones, and individual preference would certainly be the deciding factor.

I will be selling both my HD650/equinox and Ultrasone 2500, as they are not as comfortable for long-term listening as are the 701s.

I'm a/b-ing the 2500 and K701 as we speak. It's a tough one, for sure.

With the preceding poster, I agree that the K701 have the edge with respect to spatial cues, nuance and realistic synergy. The AKG are ultimately bass-reticent, though, and lack the foundational low end of the 2500.

All-tolled, I'd say that the 2500 strike an overall better balance and offer a hard-to-describe sense of emotional fusion with the performers, especially vocalists. It's like having your vegetables fresh and raw with the 2500, but delicately sauteed and lightly seasoned with the K701. : )

While the 2500 don't necessarily do one thing better than the K701, they do more things well.

Im getting Proline 750 soon, (traded my DT990 to it) which is pretty much closed version of 2500, (with some flaws closed casing introduces though) so I can compare it to MS1. I guess it might give some general idea between Grado sound and higher-end Ultrasone sound.

Ron,

I see your sig. having the Sony F-1s. Compare them to the 701s when you have a chance.

Pretty much what I've thought , but I've ended up with the K701.

The soundstage and details in the 2500 are fairly good, but just don't have the magic of the K701.

I think that overall they are answering the requirements of kramer5150.

(BTW, I'm thinking about getting the 750 for my work rig, if the sound signature is close to the 2500)

Too.... much.... Sibilance!
Though i have to say treble is amazing, music is very engaging with the
2500's.
As pataburd said, music is served raw and vicious in a good way.

I'd love to try the 2500.
Some say they can't get used to how the 2500 deliver the sound to the ears,
because it's so different from all other phones.
Giving a 3d effect I've read.
I wish my wallet was fat.
