Surround Ex with 5.1 Sony Headphones?

Can anyone tell me if the Sony MDR-DS5100 can be used with movies that have Surround Ex, how do they sound with the newer movies?

Sure you can but without an EX processor you won't get any of that effect. The only processing that the 5100 can do is basic DD and DTS.

recent DVD movies

Thank you, for your response again Acidtripwow.

When I meant surround ex movies, I was really talking about those movies like Mission To Mars or Saving Private Rian.

These are movies where (according to dolby) "the surround ex" channel has already been mixed in the "DD 5.1 track." How do those kind of movies sound compared to the older movies with just dolby digital 5.1?

Do the newer movies have a better surround image with more directional sounds?

sony mdr-ds5100

To those scepticle about the Sony MDR-DS5100, apparently the surround image on the new movie dvd releases greatly improves and is said to be more directional so that answers that question, according to CDROM who owns this unit. So it does a lot more than just decoding dolby digital, it can also decode new dolby digital formats with 5.1 downmix from 6.1. Saving Private rian got good reviews and that movie has a new dolby digital soundtrack. Supposedly better with DTS.
