Damn, it's a lot cooler than I thought it would be. I just replaced my cell, so I'll be waiting for gen 2 and more storage space.

I used to buy nothing but the cutting edge of phones....especially PDA phones. But I got a REAL sour taste in my mouth with tMobiles PDA phones....

Maybe I'll give the iPhone a shot in February when my contract with tMobile is up....that is, only if vinnie can iMod it for me.

So, any pictures of your tin-foil and coat hanger hats to reflect all those harmful waves away? There are alot of things worse going around the air than the occasional cell phone waves, which have been proven to be alot less harmful than previously beleived.

On a serious note however, I'm really liknig the iPhone initially. Regardless of how it's overatted (although that's said of EVERY Apple product), they have some really great innovations that makes the iPhone an idea device for people who want to replace carrying around an ipod, cell phone and (to some extent) a laptop. Now the price is something to scoff at, but there really isn't anything even close to the iPhone on the market today, so you should expect the premium of waving it around in public.

I am a fan of simplcity in electronics. Design, tactile feel, usability, quality. I miss the days when a cell phone was just a cell phone. Most manufacturers pack useless half-assed technology into phones in order to jack up the price and end up delivering a poor design with poorly executed features.

The iphone is the first device that I am excited about which combines media/internet features with a cell phone. The phones of this world the iphone is really competing with in terms of features - the Treos, Blackberry and the like, have nothing on the iphone in terms of design and appeal. At the very least, I am happy to see Apple bring some quality design into the cellular marketplace, which as I type is filled with mostly crap.

As excited as I am about this, I will not be an early adopter. I am not about to sign up with Cingular and I am not paying $600 for a phone. In another 1 to 2 years this type of phone will be more reasonable in price and the kinks will be worked out. Maybe then it will have a 64gig SSD. And most likely, there will be some serious competition for Apple to consider. Which in my opinion is a great thing.

Stacking all that functionality in a single package has never been done before, that makes it a first, hense Bleeding Edge.

I see the price of the iphone is $499 but haven't read anything about the cost for service. Anyone know?

I disagree. Many other brand name phones can do the same thing and more and 3G GSM. Other brands have better camera's up to 5.1 mega pixels. The only thing apple has over others is an 8 gig flash drive and the apple hype. The most bleeding edge phone is the Nokia n95 (available now) and n97 ( soon to be available). Sony plans to have 8 gigs of flash and Meizu to have 8 and 16 gigs with better cameras. Don't believe the hype!

Do!

I have to admit im very pessimistic about the iphone. Sure its incorporated plenty of stuff, but im almost certain there are going to be too many drawbacks its not funny.

It'll be great to see the first few updates to the phone to iron out the bugs. But still, im sure there will be plenty of jamming, pc to phone issues, poor battery life, and bundled up will be Apples fantastically buggy isoftware.

The interface looks really really cool, but I don't need any of the functionality it offers. All my cell phone does is make/receive calls and it doesn't even do that very often!

I'm tired of apple getting all the credit as being the first. The ipod ripped off other DAP's and repackaged the concept for the masses. Now they are doing the same thing with the cell phone and getting the recognition as being the first. I'm sure the player will look nice and work for the average consumer but for those that want more control will have to look elsewhere as I had to do with my ipod and iTunes. I'm sure they will make a great product but i think lesser known products will blow it way in bleeding edge features for the rest of us. I think apple should get the recognition for making the phone user friendly for the masses not bleeding edge features in one package.

Do!

I think Apple gets recognition as the 'first' for a lot of these things because they are the first to bring it into the public eye and get people really talking about it.

Steve Jobs is a genus at marketing hype eve since the iPod.
