FS: Entech 205.2 (sold)

Entech 205 with a gold-plated DIP socket. I've been using the OPA2107 but I have other op-amps if you prefer (OPA2134, OP275, LM4562).

Also I replaced the main rectifiers with MUR160 ultra-fast diodes and the main filter caps with Panasonic FC electrolytics. The outer case has a few scratches but everything looks OK and works like it should. Includes Entech power adapter in like new condition.

I'm asking $100 plus actual shipping costs.

The power adapter is not a wall-wart, it is a small brick with a 2-wire line cord.

Price has been reduced. Please notice the 2 signal transformers near the coax input sockets, the muting relay near the output sockets, the large Panasonic FC caps in the power supply, the film caps and the opamp socket in the analog section, and the six discrete transistors used to buffer the output of the opamp filter.

What did it sound like before and after modification?

The unit has the characteristic Cirrus DAC sound, meaning it has strong bass, with forward mids and detailed treble. In general it reminds me of the E-MU 1212m which uses the CS4398 DAC.

The original opamp, OPA2134, is a technically excellent unit with mellow bass, a laid-back midrange and distinct treble (in this case). I found the OPA2107 to be a significant improvement, producing tighter bass, better detailed mids, and more delicate, airy treble. The 2107 seems to have better synergy with the slightly agressive CS4329 DAC.

The improved rectifiers and caps in the main power supply simply tighten up (focus) the overall sound signature.

These are back on eBay for $90 plus shipping. Of course you will have to change the op-amp if you want it to sound better.
