Q about LOD

Can someone please explain to me why LOD have more sound quality gain instead of mini to mini through the amps?

LOD bypasses the internal headphone amp that is generally considered poor

so how do I know if certain players are able to use LOD. because I have found the Panasonic D-Snap SV-SD850N has a D snap port. so I wonder if I can use LOD to take advantage of the amp thx
