Power cord replacement vs power conditioner

I can't understand why a power cord replacement is a better solution for pure AC then a power conditioner or power regeneration device like that from PS Audio. Should I spend $500 on a new power cord or get a power regenerator/conditioner?

What exactly are you looking to accomplish or solve - (more dynamics, less noise etc) and what are you using it with (amp, digital source)?

Buy a nice power conditioner like from PS Audio (I use the Duet) and buy something like the Iron Lung Jelly Fish power cords. They're a great cord for the money (35$ shipper for 2). If you need go read the review of power cords here...

In my experience a Conditioner is going to help the most and a power cord will help alot also but spending over say 100$ on it is crazy if you ask me.

This question is really whether you think you'll get benefit from a $500 power cord. Are you a believer. I'm not.

As to power conditioning, it largely depends on the quality of the equipment your running. Power supplies in stereo equipment are often quite industrial. The cleanest power in the world won't help them.

Spend the money on upgrading the power supplies in your equipment would make more sense...

It depends on how it currently sounds like and how you want it to sound. I would get a used PS Audio P300 Power Plant before the power cord. I have already bought a backup P300 so I can replace it fast when lightning fries it. I will use a P300 my whole life, it's that good. You can find one used for 500 bucks on Audiogon. Get a P300 that has MultiWaveII+, the MWave4 setting is great, it gives crazy bass and low-level detail.

Dan,

happyangryhappy poses a good question. If this is for a digital source then a regen/conditioner might be in order. If it is for an amp a conditioner/regen can restrict the current flow reducing dynamics if it is not large enough.

So I will reiderate what gear is this for. A dedicated circuit may be in order also.

I would get a CryoMax III cord from Cryo-Parts and buy a Hammond 193L choke to wire in parallel to it.

Note also to Patrick - You have to try the Hammond 193L choke (193M if you are 240V) - it is very, very good at eliminating high and low frequency AC interference. All the filtering upsides of an isolating transformer without having to have it in-line. The way of the future. You will love em I know. Even blows ERS paper out of the water!

Where do I buy the 193M in Europe? Shipping from USA is going to cost 2-3 times more than the choke since it weighs 10.5 lbs.
Partsconnexion has a 15% sale that ends tomorrow, I guess I will buy a few from there. How many do I need?

I gave up on getting one internationally from the USA as postage costs too much (the M's are 5kg). You should have a local transformer supplier who stocks Hammond transformers, they can provide them.
