Tweak - Liquid Resolution - Page 2

You are such a cynic. Perhaps it means if you are a patient body builder, you music will sound better.

That is an interesting idea. I havent done any weight training since the 1980s, maybe if I get on the treadmill I would get the same effect. Personally I find music sounds best to me when I am relaxed.

As for the tweak, does the manufacturer explain how it works ?

Not many open minded people here at Head-Fi, eh - especially in a tweaks forum?

I dont know if any of you have game consoles but one of the tweaks to get CD's/DVDs to read correctly was to wash them in hot water. This same tweak has surfaced recently for HD DVDs that have read problems.

An explanation that was put forward is that there is some some of film left from the stamping process that can affect readability. Washing in hot water seemed to remove it. Why hot water? Because it has higher surfactant qualities when hot. But the same can be achieved with cold or warm water and a detergent - or perhaps any solvent and a good wiping?

With HD DVD and consoles the fix was to avoid read errors on a gross scale but surely this could also affect audio discs on a smaller scale?

The various disc cleaners are a bit overpriced, especially when detergent and warm water may work just as well, but it doesnt mean that these 'specialized' fluids dont work.

The point being that with digital audio it's not going to be a subtle difference. It's either there or not there, everyone knows what it sounds like when a CD skips, if you're getting disk read errors it will sound something like that, fundamentally it will be very very obvious.

You're definitely not going to get a subtle improvement!

Thats only in the worst case where a string of unrecoverable errors has occured. There will be 10-200 'softer' errors every second!, BLERs BRST, UNCR, E1, E2 etc errors which give different values for the same bit each time its read, or can be error corrected. In these cases different error correction strategies are applied real time to correct the errors, sometime well, sometimes not.

A clearer, less obscured view of the disc data will minimise the need and application of these.

Frankly, I think it sounds better to you because you want it to. In reality, it shouldn't help for reasons given above.

Before you get caught up in the excitement of these tweeks, I would stay away from the CD Finalizer that they have listed for $595. An amp for half that amount will be a much better value.

??????? - How does that work ? are not all CDs finalized by the pressing - I know I can burn non finalized CDs but I didnt think this applied to commercial CDs, now I am really puzzled.

I do like to try different different items, which is probably why I have more headphone amplifiers, headphones and cables than I really need.

I believe the vendor offers a 30-day guarantee so if I don't feel it delivers some improvement for less than 25 cents a CD, I am out nothing other than the shipping.
I think that's the only way.
Believe only your own ears and dont pay too much attention to people who don't even bother to use them....

With my Cary 303/300 I haven't heard a difference from CD tweaks because it uses a faster drive and buffers the data into RAM like a computer.

However, it's pretty obvious this tweak is going to make an improvement in one way or another. It's simple, the CD isn't perfect and it affects the CD player in bad ways. There will be inconsistent current draw, vibration, light scatter etc.

You can spend thousands on CD tweaks and it still isn't going to make it perfect, so there are lots of further improvements possible. The stroking action of your hand matters also. I don't like to keep stroking my CD so I use a computer instead and underclock it for less current draw which results in less jitter.

On the first few CDs, I have treated, I notice a improvement in the width and depth of the soundstage. It is not as dramactic as the ads claim but it is definitely there.

I also treated my Diana Krall "Live in Paris" DVD and the images seemed to have more clarity.

I would be curious as to how this works versus Auric Illuminator.

Too bad any discussion of tweaks gets hijaked by the Jackass fringe.

I doubt you'll get many answers to the precise question you pose, however, as opposed to unsolicited opinions as to why it cannot possibly work, comments bemoaning snake oil, etc. You really can't ask for "experience" regarding certain tweaks on this sub-forum, because a large segment of people don't want to talk about actual "experience" or allow others to talk about it, but are more interested in making fun, diverting the thread, etc. Anyway, watch it happen (as it has already.)

If you are really interested in actual "experience", you basically have to tell folks to confine their comments to that, and that might reduce some of the thread krapping.
this experience you talk of is people who havent taken a minute of psychology and truly think they are smarter than their mind, which is pretty funny
