The R10 says it is hurt and upset!

I think it is more comfortable than the other two, and that's more important to me than looks. Appearance-wise, it's OK to me.

<-- I'm no beauty myself, as you can see.

Congrats!

How do you like the bass on the R10?

Good amp. Haha.

Wow, some serious eye candies in this thread. Looking forward to your impressions!

Yep...those are a nice pics. I also prefer the R10 over the L3000. Nice catch on the R10. Look pristine.

Here's my current setup. As you can see, the L3000, W5000 or other headphones are nowhere to be seen. The AT-HA5000 is silent and dark.

I hate Head-Fi!!!
Looks like you will be going to 5 figured priced components soon.

Let me have you chord64 when you do.

Congratulations and nice going man. Your R10 looks perfect. I agree with you that the R10 just sounds so resolving and so detailed. I still can't believe that they are a product of 1989. Two more years, and several R10s will be 20 years old.

Yep, the HA5000 should be good but not good enough for the R10. Singlepower amp, especially the Supra and SDS are an excellent match with both version of the R10. The R10 usually requires top class amplification and source. They are the most demanding headphone I've heard.

Maybe it`s about time to try Rudistor`s RPX-33 ?

(You always wanted to anyway, didn`t you?)

And don“t worry about the price.
Like it seems, you`ve got lots of equipment to sell anyway...

oh man.... my jaw just fell off.... happy listening man, i'm jealous

Congrats man! I'm looking forward to more impressions!
My one regret is that I didn't get to hear my old R10 with my new vinyl rig - vinyl has significantly changed the listening experience (for the better to my ears), and each headphone has reacted a bit differently to it. I'd really like to see where it takes the R10, as I felt they had the best soundstage of any headphone, and were right up there with Qualia 010 for best in resolution. So far, I'm getting the impression that the soundstage 'phones are the ones that open up the most with vinyl, which would get pretty interesting in the R10's case. Certainly, when I used digital sources, I easily preferred the L3000 for hard rock & metal. However, your Chord 64 DAC is far more serious than any of the digital sources I've owned, which could change the game somewhat.

As purk mentioned, the R10 is a beast to drive! They're as power-hungry as the HP1000, and even more sensitive to quality of amplification. The 6sn7-trio Singlepower amps don't have enough power at high volume levels. The 5687 SLAM output tubes restrict the wonderful soundstage. The newer in-vogue tubes like the ones in Purk's SDS are just right! The big SS amps are more likely to have adequate power reserves, but getting the refinement, smoothness, and tonality just right could be tougher.

While I know they look a bit clunky in pics, for those who have never held one in hand it's hard to realize the "aura" that these cans possess. There's a fineness and attention to detail in the build of these guys that no other headphone can match, IMO.

I was on good behavior and refrained from posting insults on Head-Fi for a few days, and walah, the R10 appeared!

I think it's very good, but not quite as good as the L3000's.

The R10's bass is well-integrated and balanced. Impact and quantity are not emphasized and not lacking. Details are excellent, but I think the W5000's bass might have a bit more details and texture (IME, in my system).

Actually, this R10 has some scratches and dings. I don't mind some "battle damage" as long as it continues to produce great sound.

I think the R10 is more detailed than the L3000, but maybe not the W5000. One of the reasons I like the W5000 is its incredible resolution and details.

I prefer the Raptor over the HA5000 for the R10, as well as some other headphones such as the HD650, K701 and RS-1.

Sell equipment? But then I won't be able to post much.

Didn't a moderator PM you when you joined with the rule that you can only post about gear you're actually listening to at the time?

Listen to it again. Beside the Qualia, I can't recall any headphone that has more resolution than the R10s. Another great quality of the R10 is its ability to give a sense of space and air on every instrument.
