im not a big fan of super expensive cables. but why are revelation and quables charge such a premium on their cables? i understand they use top quality stuff but still...

for diyers, how much does it cost to make one of these cables mentioned by the op, say about 2-3 ft?
manhattanproj,

I am not a fan of radioshack cables no need to bash them. If you are looking for good value the Blue Jeans cables are it. I have a 1.5 meter digital that cost me $20.00 with shipping that sounds execelent. But I also wont give up my Synergistic Research cables either.

what about monster? ppl seem to hype about them alot.

I've read many articles written by audio professionals about the big "cable scam". They say that cables have the highest profit-margin of any item in the store, and do not affect sound quality unless you are running a $10,000 system.

I would recommend making your own cable. I needed the same one you are looking for, and made one myself. It took me 5 minutes, and it works awesome. I couldn't be happier with it. Cost me $0, since I had the spare pieces lying around.

The one I made looks just like that Blue Jean Cable pictured above. $35!?!?! Maybe I should start making these and selling them online. I'm in the wrong business .

manhattanproj,

I would pick Radioshack over monster but that is just me. IMHO monster is just expensive hype. In the end you will have to be the one to decide which cable is best for you based on listening preferences. I looked at your rig and noticed you are using a Zune. I don't know what file format you are using but that is also an issue as to the sound quality you will receive.

If you are using 128k mp3 the cable may not make a difference at all.

I am currently using an AudioQuest mini to RCA 1 meter cost $35.00 plus tax.

Jemsic,

I must disagree that it takes a 10K system to be able to hear the difference in cables. It takes a good quality resolving system which can be built for less than 10K.

I do agree that cables are overpriced for what you get. But remember the user makes the final decision as to what to pay for what.

How about ALO audio cable? Does it worth that amount of money ???
I'm not sure whether I'm a cable guy or not since I have little experience in this part but I do believe that expensive cable does make the sound become better even in the illusion

That's not my opinion, I'm just repeating what I've heard. I remember some huge opera leader guy in Italy said that he just uses $2/ft cables made in Geneva - and that unless they're dirt-cheap fishing line, they're all relatively the same.

I agree that you can formulate your own opinions, as music quality is entirely in the ear of the listener. But I just find it entirely suspicious that the cost of materials in building certain cables can cost upwards of 1000x more to increase the quality.

But hey, if all you're using it for is an ipod - any cable will be exactly the same. It's not like you're listening to analog masters or anything, just ripped digital songs.

You only need high quality cables if you are running long lengths of cable. If you are just using, say a 6-inch radio shack cable, you will not be able to tell any difference vs high priced ones. Expensive cable buyers are not really for the sound, it's really just for the looks and self satisfaction that every link you have in our system is pricey.

You can easily relate it in terms of cars. Most head-fi'ers are all about the performance and have systems like Lancer Evolution or a Corvette. Cable buyers are the ones that will take that Corvette and mod it with aerodynamic side mirrors or a really nice front lip/spoiler thinking that there is a performance difference, when in fact it is really just for the looks.

Funny post in a certain way. BTW my corvette is stock, because I find most of the so called aerodynamic stuff just plain ugly.
