A semester or two in material sciences would help them understand property differences in elements and alloys.

Sorry to disappoint you, but we do.

yes, thin copper is good for very short runs. It is also the most cost-effective manufacturing method. A product is designed for a target purchaser, components chosen to make a price point, etc. It's why manufacturers don't use black gates and spawns another industry, upgrading stock equipment.

For an analogy, consider the component quality of a mainframe vs. a midrange system (> $400k). Would a mainframe perform like a mainframe if it used midrange process construction? Absolutely no way. I.E. interconnects and materials do matter. It's all about how fast/good your environment must be.

I shall never tire of this picture!

I now understand why discussion of D*T is banned on here. It's like global warming. You're on one side or the other and nothing in a thousand showings of An Inconvenient Truth or The Great Global Warming Swindle is going to sway the true believers on either side. I guess I should know about that since I work in wind power... but actually what I KNOW is that there is no scientific certainty either on incrementally higher end cables or global warming. And while what you BELIEVE would ideally be reserved for the tooth fairy and who is or isn't the son of God, we all have to arrive at some working hypothesis and run with it until something that we find persuasive alters the overall balance of evidence within our individual metric. This thread has provided precious little of that. So... trust your ears and... who cares what someone else thinks.

Cheers!

Point taken. All the best.

Nevertheless, this thread has kept fairly interesting so far .

I don't mind paying a bit more for Blue Jeans Cable, not only because I trust their cables, but because they have superb build quality. Over that range I enter the realm of cables taboo to me.

I don't mind people buying their expensive cables and whatnot, it's their buisiness. I just don't want people trying to make newbies believe it's a fact that a silver cable will improve the sound over their stock HD600 cable. The money would be better spent on a good amp or an HD650, for example.

I have noticed different quality of sound from different types of cables.

Did you notice a difference while not knowing which cable you were using? I suspect you knew what cable you were using. Get a friend to swap random cables without you knowing, see if you can pick out a difference in the cables.

Very good comparison, as this clearly shows that opinion is severely influenced by interests. The actual U.S. government has members that were part of directorate of enterprises which would lament high financial losses in case of more ecological legislature. Ecology, on the other hand, has become number one job machine in "vice" germany.

The german headphone forum has no cable manufacturers as sponsors. Flaming on this toppic is allowed (and often done). Cable believers are an endangered minority there.

Yeah, I just decided to be happy that cable believers don't design bridges or airplanes, and leave it at that.

Let your ears be the judge. I'm a structural/civil engineer and I'm a firm believer in cable, especially the Senn HD-600, HD-650 upgraded cables. I owned Clou blue & red, cardas, equinox, mobius, and blue & silver dragon in the past and all of them were able to improve/enhance the sound of the my HD-600 and HD-650 to a various degree. The Mobius, Silver Dragon, and Equinox are my favorites.

...until you realize they don't have nearly as many cool toys - to discuss, post pics of, and review - as the folks here on headfi

Give us a material sciences graduate, 8 popular Sennheiser replacement cables, a cold dark cell, and 72 hours (give or take a day)...oh, we'll make a cable believer out of him all right! We won't even need the headphones.

You're right...I think he could probably use a Zu Mobius to hang himself after he discovers how much money he wasted .

Don't take me too seriously btw :P.
