preamp outputs for driving headphones?

I'm buying an ULTRASONE edition 9 (as soon as I sell everything in my sig), but I haven't decided on an amp/DAC combo for them. I remember the Lavry DA10's balanced outputs doing a fantastic job with the HD650 for the price, and I've heard that headphone amps often make good preamps, so I was wondering whether I should look into preamps for powering the UE9. The UE9 is only 40 ohms, though. I'm specifically looking at the Bel Canto DAC3. Would it be feasible to modify its output stage for driving low impedance headphones? Also, any suggestions as to what other amps/DACs I should be looking at are welcome. A used DAC3 is pretty much at the peak of my pricerange (maybe $1600).

Thanks guys.

I'm still wondering about this.
