The Stello HP100 has the "filter selector", and I was considering that would be a very handy way to compensate for this. Can anyone comment on that combination?
Hi Orcin

You won't go wrong with the Stello DA100, it does a very good job with all three of the amps I had it connected to, the Woo3, M^3, and GS-1. It is certainly better than my Constantine USB, Zhaolu D2 and DAC-AH.... and a good value at its price point.

I'm not so sure about the HP100 though. What other amps are you considering?

I want to buy a DAC, and I have to choose between Constantine+ and Stello DA100. Since you've got both of them, your advice would be of special value to me.

My setup is:
CD-player NAD C521BEE
Amplifier: NAD C320BEE
Speakers: Acoustic Energy Aegis EVO 3

My goal is to replace cd-player with a DAC and be able to play flacs using my computer via USB.

I've come across your negative comments about the SQ of Constantine+ when it's fed via USB. However, later, if I am not mistaken, you changed your opinion saying that Constantine+ was not as bad via USB as you initially had thought. What's your current opinion on it? Does USB input really sound so much worse than optical and coax inputs in Constantine+?

In your opinion, which DAC is more worth its price - Constantine or Stello DA100 (if both are used via USB)?

Also, I want to share this link with this thread:
AprilMusic(¿¡ÀÌÇÁ¸±¹ÂÁ÷) D/A ÄÁ¹öÅÍ(DAC: Digital Analog Converter) ¿¡ÀÌÇÁ¸±¹ÂÁ÷(AprilMusic) Stello DA-100 ÄÁ¹öÅÍ Á¦Ç°Á¤º¸ - fineAV.com

Stello DA100 is sold there for 550,000 Korean Won, it's equivalent of USD541. Anybody tried to buy from this Korean web-site? It's in the Korean language, I cannot understand a thing. I wrote a letter to shop@fineav.com asking them about the delivery charges (to Russia), but no reply yet.
Hi IronM

For USB, it's the Stello all the way. I love my Constantine, but optically or Coax is really they way to go with a Constantine. You can get by with the USB implementation, it's not bad at all, but when I wanted to use the Constantine USB with a laptop, I bought a Blue Circle Thingee to do the conversion from USB to Coax and Optical.

I am considering the GS-1, assuming that Justin continues to catch up on his backlog. I had posted a thread a while back about several DAC's and amps, and from those responses I had pretty well narrowed my field to two DAC's: the Stello and the MHDT Paradisea+. Of course, these are quite different DAC's, with the Paradisea+ being NOS and having the tube buffer. For amp choices, I had gotten it down to the Stello HP100 and the GS-1.

My "cheap" setup was going to be using the Paradisea+ with my Yamaha integrated amp. I thought the "musicality" of the NOS DAC would pair better with the SS hi-fi unit, and that pair would be much less than $1000.

Now, I am thinking that I can spend more than $1000, so I am looking more seriously at the Stello DAC and an amp that could pair well with it. I think I would prefer a SS solution that has a neutral, accurate approach and would allow me to tweak the sound via cabling and of course different headphones.

I was initially thinking that the Stello HP100 would be the best mate, but I continue to hear many good things about the GS-1. I hear good things about more expensive DAC's too, but I don't think I need to spend more money than the DA100 in order to get what I want.

Having owned DA100 + HP100 combo I can say that these two play very well together. Back then I used HD650 as my primary headphone and that combo worked extremely well. HP100 works well with my current source also (Bel Canto's USB DAC). It'd be very interesting to compare GS1 to HP100. Based on what I've read about GS1, it should sound somewhat similar than HP100.

Thanks, Andrew. I had overlooked both of those threads. One common theme running through these comparisons is that the GS-1 is more transparent because the HP100 filter switch has no "off" position.

Can anyone confirm that the Signature has true balanced out?
Or was that just an inaccuracy about the cold signals of DA100S being generated by opamps?

You can always count on Andrew to be Johnny on the Spot.... nice searches....

Don't forget to read between the lines.

I ordered DA100 from April Music web-site. While I am waiting for it to arrive, I study the manual for Stello. Can anyone explain what do the words "DA100 does not support ASIO driver. DA100 is designed for pure playback mode only" mean? Does it mean that it is not required to install asio4all drivers for Stello?
You can and *should* use asio4all with it for the best quality playback.
They mean that it's playback only, and latency elimination (the main intent of ASIO) is irrelevant.
Did you get Signature or the regular one?

Regular one. You will not believe me if I tell you how cheaply I am buying it. It's going to overhaul the whole price hierarchy of DACs on this forum
So don't keep it a secret....

How much did you pay?

Ok. Soon DA100 will have to come to grips with my current cd-player NAD C521BEE. I do not plan to keep both of them, so only one shall survive...

How can You buy anything from the April Music web-site for less than it costs?
I wouldn't mind getting a PM either.
