Stello DA100 (show-off/impressions thread) - Page 14

On balanced rumor, afraid there is just not enough real estate on the back to fit it, I2S replaces second optical, somehow they're squeezing in AES/EBU, but no way 2 extra sockets for balanced out will fit there. Guess that was just wishful thinking or someone confused EBU for balanced.

Andrew_WOT: The balanced "rumor" comes from April's own ad[1]. Judging by the circuit board picture you posted[2], it looks like the analog outputs are balanced only. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. If correct, since my amp only accepts unbalanced inputs I should probably just buy the DA100 now.

Edit: Hmm, if there's only balanced out, how are are they connecting it to the HP100? Maybe unbalanced out are squished on there somehow, or maybe an adapter?

I stand corrected then.
On that picture it looks like they put some RCA sockets on the second row. But without seeing the back and full spec it's just guessing.

Unless I'm reading this wrong, there's virtually no reason to get the Signature edition unless you plan on using it with the matching transport.

While it's a cool addition, and it would make a sweet stack, I don't see the value for those of us who use the DA100 is a computer source via USB or S/PDIF.

Note the inside look of the connectors that are taking the space of the RCAs original. Thats the 3-pin XLR from the back. You can obviously also see the RCAs next to it in vertical arrangement, so this amplifier does not appear to be balanced only.

Mind you - with proper cabling one can use a balanced source plugged into a single-ended amp even if there are no single ended outputs (although depending on the design of the source, that may or may not be a good idea).

For those of us who use this as a computer source - there is the advantage of balanced outs which is what I really missed on DA100...

Looking at the picture. It looks like the RCA outputs are placed at the very right of the DAC vertically next to the Balanced outputs.

Ah, now I see them. Thanks!

From my guessings. This should be the arrangement of the inputs/outputs at the back. From left to right.
1. Vertical RCA Outputs
2. Horizontal Balanced Outputs
3. AES/EBU input
4. SPDIF & TOSLINK/i2s/USB (one of the three) input above another 2
5. Power

From the picture you can clearly see the SPDIF & another input are above something which are most likely the other two inputs.

DA100 Sig

Hi guys!
I'm brand new to stello and to your forum also.
I'm reading your post about the DA100 because I just ordered the DA100 yesterday...signature actually.
I initialy choosed the "normal" one when i've been proposed to get the sig one for the 200 extra bucks.
Well, even if I don't even know what I2S is and have no use of balanced outputs, as one of you said, why getting limited with features to save little money?
As you seem all to worry about differences between the normal unit and the signature, here you can find data sheet for the sig model: http://www.aprilmusic.co.kr/AM/produ...00Sig_Spec.doc
hope it helps.
I plan to use it with a macmini/usb first, then, who knows?
regards,
G.

Great find, thanks.
Based on the spec the only difference is balanced output and I2S, AES inputs. Can you please contact your sale if USB is converted to SPDIF or I2S? Thanks in advance.

ok, question raised.
Do you mean the signal coming from USB could be sent to spdif or i2s as a kind of convertion, and then lose some quality? So it could go to USB>Spidf>RCA?

Questions.
How did you order one? By email, website?
Where did you find that link for the specs? Can't seem to locate it on their website.
via hifi500 web site.
Then I contacted sales for a question, and from a mail to another i was proposed with the signature one, with attached specs. Paypal, and fedex to france.
That simple.
That's true you can't find no info about this model.

Internally USB signal gets converted, in old implementaion it was USB->SPDIF, ask them if the new one does USB->I2S.
Thanks
