Hey buddy,
Congrats on your new toy

looks great I may say, the desire is growing

Give us some more details after the Burn-in

After extensive listening I would say, DA100 is the one of the best buys I had recently. I may buy another one later for another setup I am building.
I have listed my AUDIGY2 ZS for sale with an MD10.

Has anybody here compared the DA100 to the Bel Canto DAC2? I'm still having a hard time finding a second-hand DA100 (I just can't afford $780 shipped plus possible import duties for a DA100), but the Bel Canto DAC2 seems to always be in abundant supply on Audiogon.

The DAC2 is a poor substitute. It has a warm sound signature (moreso than any of the comparable DAC's I've heard at length), and a somewhat soft sound, dare I say a bit veiled in the high end. It could work well in certain systems, but I don't think it is the overall performer that the DA100 is. Plus the features and usability are pretty lacking compared to the DA100.

A better option if you're trying to spend less than the DA100's ~$800ish new price would be the VDA2, which is $600 new. Then you could always add the VAC1 power supply later as an upgrade when you had a bit more cash. It is similarly small and simple as the DAC2, but sounds a fair bit better, like a DAC1 without the slight high-end graininess.

$695 is already more than I should be spending on a DAC(my wife will flip if she finds out) Then there's the whopping $85!!! shipping charge. I was at least hoping they could do some "creative paperwork" like some other online dealers do in order to avoid getting clobbered with duty. This was their reply:

"Thank you for your high interests on our product.
Unfortunately, we can't help you with invoice value due to customs issue.(It will raise a lot of red flags and probably get inspected.)
I'm not sure where you are located, however you will soon know purchasing DA100 via hifi500.com is the best option for you even though you're charged for customs duty.
For example, Russ Andrews in UK have OEM product of DA100 but the price is over 2 times than hifi500.com provides.
It's your decision now
Have a good weekend!!"

Tough decision indeed

So, I guess I should hear a huge improvement when I get mine in a few days.

You will forget that $85 when DHL brings your packet two days after the order.

You can also order S100 or HP100 so the shipping cost feels smaller.

Maybe this thread is a good place to ask my question:

Has a comparison of the DA100 been made to the DA220 mk2 yet? I would be very interested to know. The web literature is scarce on the differences but I, for one, love the look and price point of both Stello DACs. I just want to know if the DA100 is all of the DA220 less some features?

I'd rather have that $85 in my pocket and instead wait 2-3 weeks for the DAC to arrive

Iron Dreamer compared two awhile ago. Accordingly to him SQ wise in single ended mode they are indistinguishable.

Can't find the comparison now. I don't remember in which thread it was.

EDIT: Here's something.
