The bad news is my laptop crashed. The great news is my Hornet arrived.

Thread Starter
After a year-and-a-half of relatively stable operation, my laptop bailed (OS-related). Thankfully, I'm relatively careful about backing things up. But, still, it takes a couple/few days before one gets his minty fresh computer back to something resembling its pre-crash operational status. The bad news.

Arriving just in time to cheer me up and keep me listening through it all was my brand new green Hornet. For the first time in a while, I have put away my in-ears for a bit to enjoy some open-air time with my Grado GS-1000, Grado HP-1, and Sennheiser HD650. The great news.

I rarely use the HP-1 (so I'm actually thinking of selling it), but I was curious about how well the Hornet would drive it--the answer is easily and well. Hmmm.....I'm now considering tasking the HP-1 with office rig duty. Here are some photos of my new green baby with its most reclusive partner (the Grado HP-1).

Most of my listening nowadays is through my portable rigs, so the Hornet was something I've wanted to pick up for some time now, and, so far, I'm absolutely thrilled with it. My green Hornet joins my Ray Samuels Audio Tomahawk and HeadRoom Total BitHead (latest model) in my portable amp stable.

I'm glad it arrived when it did, as tt was just what I needed to cheer me up after the laptop crash, and to keep me listening through the laptop recovery process.

P.S. If I've been harder to reach this week, I apologize.

What differences, if any, did you remark at first listen with your Tomahawk? Any glaring differences, good or bad?

Nice shots. Jude how do the GS1Ks (and its midrange particularities) do with the Hornet?

Thats the most immense portable set-up I've ever seen. Don't you feel that interconnect is overly bulky (looks it)? And what audio formats and bit rates are you using? I imagine that the HP-1000 is quite revealing. Nice pics btw

I love the look of the Green Hornet. Nice color.

BTW, that is the cleanest, most pristine pair of HP-1s I have ever seen. How could you even THINK of selling them?

Great pictures!
/me want those HP-1000's... Cause they look like brand new.

Congrats on the Hornet, Jude! (…sorry 'bout the laptop…)

I love the Green Hornet — especially with the new green anodized color. Doesn't that seem like a jewel, the way its facets show different greens — almost like a real emerald?

What is that 7-conductor ALO IC?

Now you can post your journey through the Hornet's "burn-in" curve.

The HP-1 looks great with that system.

Have fun!

I just ordered that exact same hornet (color and everything). I would be interested to hear what your thoughts are on sound. What is the burn in time on a Hornet, anyone?

Jude, I thought the HP-1's were given to a moderator after his first year anniversary. That's what Wayne told me.

The Green Hornet looks great! Enjoy the time away from your computer.

"Burn in" time to reach optimal sound is about 400 hours.

I love that Green color, it'll probably be what I get...should I eventually cave in and buy one. Hornet vs. Tomahawk tough choice.

Great pics...and sweet Grados.

dig that groovy couch man

The Hornet looks great in Green. Now would you be willing to anodize the Grado's in green as well?

So the stable laptop that you were talking about at head-fest, that had no problems, blew up? :P Nice setup btw, I've been getting the itch to pick up one of the colored Hornet's...

Great shots Jude.
I'm thinking about a new tomahawk, you wouldn't happen to have any photos like these with the nano and toma together do you?
