You might just be confusing soundstage with separation. I find the 225 separates instruments better than the Senn 580 which can give the illusion of a better (bigger) soundstage.

personally i think burn-in is a load of crap. didn't hear any difference on the sr225... OR the k501, OR the hd600. they've all stayed the same. burn-in is getting used to bad sound

or john grado might hear you (or like a zillion other people who hear changes in gear after the gear is used for awhile).

when i got my GS1000's the week they came out John asked me what I thought, and also asked me to let him know after 100 hours what differences i heard, because there would definately be some.

but then again, what does he know about grado headphones?

if you cant hear a difference in a new pair of 225's after some hours of play then you've got major wax build up.

or is there no such thing as ear wax?
