New Xin Reference Amp by Dr. Xin !!! - Page 33

I got a latest RE board yesterday and let it burn-in overnight. As to sq, John has put it very well yet I have to add that this RE sounds much better than other RE boards I have heard, simply unbelievable in everything. After 24 hours burn-in, the newest RE sounds slightly on the cold side, but very enjoyable. BTW, the 22000uf cap just one of the tweaks that Dr. Xin has tried. I am not sure if it makes sound better, if it sounds better, there must be other tweaks to compensate this cap's down side. I don't think Dr. Xin would keep the 1000uf cap in his finalized one.

Hello, I hope I'm not stepping on toes here. I want to ask you if you have heard the Practical devices XM4 and if so how it stacks up in your opinion. I didn't see it listed in your review section but thought you might have heard one. I am going to the Toronto Headfi meet so I will likely be able to hear a lot of the headamps there. I was looking at the LD micro but your review kind of put me off it. If you had to pick one headamp under $225 which one would it be?

Thanks for any help, Tony

Ok, I will jump in. The XM4 is a nice amp for the money. IMO it is a much better amp if you swap the OPA2134 for an AD8620. But if you want to spend less than $225 my choices would be:

1. Supermicro IV
2. Supermini IV
3. Porta Corda MkIII

If you can go to $250 then the Dr. Xin Reference Amp. Good luck.

Yep, I've reverted back to the SuperMicro IV since size is a huge issue for me now. After shoving my iMod and Go-Vibe 5 in the same pant pocket, I can tell you that it's very uncomfortable to carry it in such a comical fashion. Besides, you look ridiculous walking around with a contained gigantic bulge in your pants heh. This was a lot easier to do with the iPod Mini.

By the way all the above amps can also drive to painful level the Sen HD600 (300 ohm) and the Beyer DT990 (250 ohm). Hope this answers your question.

This makes one real nice sounding package.

I thought the iMod sounded amazing out of the box. Well I learn that other things can be amazing out of its box as well. I have about 2 hours on it now.

Got it today....the Xin Reference...WOW
