New Xin Reference Amp by Dr. Xin !!! - Page 24

Miguel, You said in the MINI thread that some of these tweaks can be incorporated into other Xin amps too. Do they involve changes of circuit layout or just part changes? If they involve circuit layout changes upgrades will be more difficult. Current delay of upgrades (04/11) to MACRO and others, in part, due to drastically different circuit layout, I guess!

At this moment I am not sure, when/if I find out I will post.

I ordered and received a Micro because of its size too to go with a nano. I know the Reference would fit pretty well with a nano, but, silly or not, I think the small size and production of the Micro is just what I need. However, all this talk is making me really intrigued! Damn!

Thanks to all reviewers and testers.

The 2nd RE sounded very soft, or you can put it as "tube-like" out of box. It's the opposite from what I expected. After one night's burn-in, it opened up a lot yet its soundtage was very wide without the depth as in Micro. Xin told me that he ran out of parts for some caps and for whatever reason he just used what he had that were different from his design; lucky enough I have some parts handy and replaced them with mine according to the values Dr. Xin suggested. Now the sound is as sweet one can imagine. BTW, Dr. Xin just told me that he have got the parts in stock.

Correct, and for a Beta test doing as he did is ok. Now the 2nd replacement board that is on its way will have the correct parts and should be the final tweak.

Yes I've heard the Lisa.... Thank you for asking. As soon as you can order one I'm there. The sound is very fluid and very easy to listen to goes perfect with senn's and your ipod. Shpongle was the perfect music to demo the setup.

Is there ever a final tweak with Xin amps?!
There are two things Xin's still testing, including a 12000uf Panasonic FC cap. In the 2nd beta Xin's using a 15000uf Nichicon.

My favorite cap, even if one wasn't needed (to me they are that good), are the Black Gate. I like the room in the Reference, esp after the 1000uF cap is removed so . . . 2 BG's, a red nonpolar and a bypass nonpolar 1/10 the value of that one. Well why not, the only constant in life is change, got to love it.

wow.. will xin be trying out the blackgate in reference?

No. There are too many variables. I have made tube preamps and since it was my design when I did changes I didn't consider it tweaking. When I play with someone else's design then I consider it tweaking. Xin is making alterations to his design and to me even if it is sublte they are design changes changes. I don't expect that any progressive designer ever sits still, how can you, too many variables and too much fun. I see my designs in my head and can alter them there so why not see how to go beyond the perceived?
