The best sound out of the LE was with the 8656 on L/R with the 8616 on the 3/4 w/ buffers bypassed.
In my experience LM4562/AD8599/OPA2227 in LR channels (buffers bypassed) with AD8599 or OPA2134 in 34 channels have better SQ than above combination.

Hum, please, think for me

Should I stick to my supermicro order or switch to this newcomer?
I will use my amp to drive my Er4s and a HD25-1.

Is there someone who actually tried the Reference or are we all Xin's believer?

Thanks. I'm in no big hurry. I need to decide on which op-amps to use first anyway.

This is very exciting. BTW the following pics show what I am talking about.

As I learn more and get to play with it I will post results.

Well I just confirmed with Dr. Xin that the amp is basically a mega version of Supermicro-IV, in a metal case and super long battery life. It uses 4 AAA which will provide enough voltage for all headphones. It does not have any fancy features, just for the purest sound possible. Its circuit is the same as Supermicro IV. BTW it does have Dr. Xin's 4 Channel design.
Is it just me or is there an immense (relative) waste of space in there?

So is all the empty space (vs. the Supermicro) supposed to contribute to the sound quality? Xin is a being made of pure genius.

Just kidding. I actually like the pics; though I wonder how much heat those minuscule SOT23 package opamps will be able to dissipate...

That may be, however by the time those op-amps were discussed I had already sold my LE.

the empty space is for the batteries

but yea theres a lot of empty space in the circuit board

I am actually hoping it won't be too much better than the SuperMicro IV. Carrying an iMod and a Go-Vibe 5 in my pockets already seem like it's going to be trouble (will found out next week). The size of the SuperMicro is terribly appealing. But I'm such a SQ fanatic

The additional space in PCB is inevitable result of having an enclosure which can accommodate 4AAAs. One of the main design ideas had been to get rid of the DC boost circuit in MICRO, hence 4AAAs. DC boost circuit adds minute degree of distortion to sound. So we have micro with more headroom in voltage and bigger filter capacitor!

When it is said that this amp is able to drive any headphone, does that mean it's the Xin equivilant to the RSA Hornet?
I wonder if it has enough punch to drive WELL an AKG K701.
Is a Supermacro able to do it?
anyone know how to order Xin Reference other than change order? There is no Xin Reference in fixup.net order page.

Just send an e-mail. Make sure the subject is [order number] change of order to get his attention.

Any of the Xin's amps that I have tried can drive the AKG K701 to painful levels. That includes from the Supermicro IV, the Supermini IV, and the Supermacro LE.

By the way all the above amps can also drive to painful level the Sen HD600 (300 ohm) and the Beyer DT990 (250 ohm). Hope this answers your question.

Ray is a great guy with great products. I have said before and will continue to say that his portable amps are built like a tank, sound great, they arrive faster than anybody I know, and he responds very quickly to emails.

However why are you comparing the Xin Reference to the RSA Hornet? Dr. Xin has been making miniature/small amps way before others had theirs in the market. The Xin Reference is simply the logical evolution to marry Dr. Xin's 4 channel technology with the Supermicro IV and the case/battery life of the Supermacro IV-LE. Simple.
