A little rant about USPS' price increase..

.. what the?

They pretty much doubled every international shipping cost for lighter packages
And what happened to global priority flat rate pouches, at $5 and $10?

Not impressed.. i was going to buy some acoustic pickups for which shipping costed $11, now it's $20+

I guess buying little things from the US would be less frequent for me..

It's not necessarily that they doubled the price... the big cost increase is that they added "volumetric" pricing. It used to be that only weight mattered, now size does too. A lot of people don't realize that. Everyone got used to shipping in oversize boxes with lots of padding on all sides, because there was no additional expense for doing so. It's going to take people a while to realize they need to switch to efficient packaging.

I think if the Post Office LOWERED thier prices, more people would shop with them...nobody wants to goto the post office when you can goto fedex or ups and get a TRACKING NUMBER with your shipping, which is probably cheaper.

They're also increasing prices on cigarettes by like $6-10 a carton here for the same reasonings.

That, or because they kill you and you shouldn't be using tobacco products anyway.

Indeed, it's very important to fit as much packages and weight as possible into their trucks and airplanes due to, DING DING DING, the rising costs of fuel.

That doesn't explain doing away with the small flat rate envelope, which was quite small indeed. Now the only choice is a much larger (and more expensive) flat rate envelope. The fact that the post offices here can't make up their mind which forms I should use, and now the doubling of prices, is going to definitely affect how many international orders I take from now on. They've made domestic shipping ridiculously easy and cheap, and at the same time they've made international shipping a real pain.

Plus the insurance is much cheaper with both FedEX and UPS.

^^ Fedex and UPS include $100 worth of insurance with thier ground shipping, no matter if it's an envelope or package....USPS priority does no such thing....sucky.

What do you sell and how big is it? Why not just offset the cost by increasing rates?

Are the forms different for different countries?

Forgive me, but I know squat about shipping international at the post office.

Yes, it's going to be those prices everywhere in the US sometime in August when it takes effect I believe.

I don't smoke, I don't drink. I'm even a vegetarian.
I was making a point.

Oh well, I won't be posting in this topic anymore. Appears I posted about Politics, when this whole topic involves US Politics.
Who else would have raised shipping prices? Certainly not Barney Gribble.
It was US Politics. I'm sure most would agree. If so, this whole topic should be removed, yes?

Joseph

EDIT:
I would like it noted that I mentioned no actual Politics in this post, as I was only replying to above posts. I did use the word Politics, but if that is not allowed.. than really, who are we?

Not only that, but you can track UPS/FedEx packages from beginning to end.

...and, if you think about it seriously, $0.41 is a lot of money to send one envelope. That's almost half of a dollar for one piece of mail.

Yes, which he countered quite effectively.

Please explain how 41 cents is a lot of money.

When letters must be picked up and delivered by the mailmen, transported as far as from one coast to the other by trucks and/or planes, go through sorting facilities, and in your mailbox within 2-3 days, 41 cents isn't expensive.

All this requires a massive infrastructure, so how seriously are you thinking?

$5 or $10 for an international parcel? Looks like shipping cost heaven to me *g*
Better don't ask for prices on international shipments here in Germany...

How seriously am I thinking?
I take that as a personal attack on my thought processes. Can you seriously tell me if I think that something is expensive that I am not thinking clearly? WTF?

I just read over your last 10 posts and most of them are just for the sake of argument, or putting someone down. It is called trolling. Quite the contrarian.
