For those of you who have very high end headphones.

Thread Starter
For those of you who already have one (or more) pair(s) of very high end headphone(s) like those in the list, what other one(s) would you like to go along with your existing pair? And more importantly, why? Do you have the L3000 but crave the PS1 as well because you can't find a way to duct tape a subwoofer to your head? Do you want the HE60 over the HE90 for some reason even if its just because you haven't tried them? If what you'd like as headphone numero two isnt in the list then post about it.

Don't just tick them all.

I have my k1000's (I presume they count as "very high end") with the Ultrasones as my secondary pair. I think the balance between the two cans is pretty good, and if funds permit, I see an Edition 9 in my distant future, as the logical extension of that chain.

In terms of dynamic headphones I think that's about it. I have yet to hear any electrostats, other than the little portable baby stax, so I can't say I see them in my future.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and of course the UE10pro. How careless of me to forget.

I'd like to try the Orpheus, just to say that I have

If you count RS1s as very high end, i'd rather like to try out PS1s and HP1s ... not so bothered about the GS1ks though.

Have the R10s, but am going to audition a pair of Edition 9s as an auxiliary headphone for harder rock. Despite being mildly underwhelmed the two times I heard them, I would love to hear the L3000s in my system. Since that's highly unlikely, I'm loathe to spend 2-3k on pair . . . if I even could find one. I owned the PS-1s, but ultimately sold them because I didn't care for their overall sound. The R10s are much more to my taste.

I have mostly AT cans and the W5000s are my primary; the L3000 complements them very well for rock sessions. I plan to try out the Grado line to see if its sound sig is my cup of tea.

OT: Anyone know which relatively inexpensive Grado phone is a good indicator of its house sound?

You voluntary forget RS-1 ?

I voted the ones i would love to try and compare with my pairs, those are: Ultrasone Edition 9, Stax SR-007, Grado GS-1000, Grado PS-1, AKG K1000 and Audio-Technica L3000 for now ...

From that list I've currently got: L3000, Qualia 010, DX1000
Previously owned: R10, K1000, HP1000, Edition 9
Have auditioned: Omega II
Would like to try (but don't want to spend the necessary funds): PS-1

There are only 2 possible changes I've been contemplating making to my headphone lineup. First, I've been flirting with selling the DX1000 for a while now; though I don't know if I'll ever go through with it. Second, I'd like to re-purchase an HD650 w/ Zu. It'll be nice to have a great pair of cans without valuable leather/wood/etc to scratch, and the HD650 I'm borrowing sounds amazing with my vinyl rig. The L3000 and Qualia 010 are here to stay.

I want a pair of DX1000 as closed cans. I think I've had enough opened cans.

having listened to most of the ones listed already, and owning the dx1000 and ue10pro currently...there are only a couple i'd still like to get my hands on. i checked off on the following:

Sennheiser HE90 - would i ever pay for one? probably not...as long as it continues to demand a cost out of my price range. however, it remains one of the best cans i've heard to date.

Stax 4070 - if i were to ever purchase an electrostat, this would be it. i prefer it over the omega2's.

TakeT H2 - while i haven't heard it before, the concept intrigues me...would love to give it a listen in the future.

I would love to have the HE-90 and the Qualia. The Qualia will be an ultimate compliment dynamics headphone for my R10. The HE-90 might be the headphone that best the R10 for me, but I probably won't be able to afford one.

Right now I have:
Qualia 010
Grado PS-1s (woodied)
I had:
AKG K1000
For my musical preferences, I thought that the Qualias were a better choice.
Right now I'm saving up for a pair of R10s. Ill probably be done after that. THe reasons are:
1. I'd like to have a semiclosed headphone
2. R10s are very different from the two headphones I own right now.
3: The soundstage of the R10 is very, very different from any other headphone I've heard, and I've found I enjoy it quite a bit. This is even more impressive because its closed.

Would like to try, but know Im really just getting sucked into FOTM:
Edition 9
Taket H2

If I had money coming out of my ass I would buy:
L3000
I appreciate the L3000 but don't think they are imperative if you're going to own one or more highend headphone. They do a lot well, but nothing superlative (excluding bass) and transients are really supar imo. They are very good, but at that level you can always find a can that does SOMETHING better imo.
He90
I suppose I could sell everything else and get this but they're very expensive, almost as fragile as Qualias, and I would need an electrostatic amp. To get a quality electrostatic amp is imo in general, more expensive than a quality dynamic, although McCalister stuff is very nice.

I have heard, owned or own quite a few of those listed yet to date I have never put a Sony product on my head or in my ears. If I am to remedy this it might as well be the "King", hopefully it would be the perfect dynamic partner to my 'stats.
