Oh how true! I can't even talk to my parents about this kind of stuff. No, not because we start fighting, but because their minds are so shut to the possiblity of learning something new, it's amazing.

Once you life outside a country so big and relatively isolated like the US, where most people believe they are the best and only country, it's a real eye-opener.

Guys - as an Australian citizen I give you all permission to insult and abuse our PM as much as you'd like, I'll bring the beer and the bbq, we can make an event out of it.

Abuse my country though, or it's citizens as a whole and I'll take offense.

Proud to be an Aussie, no pride for the fool that represents us.

No, we don't drink Fosters (it's very hard to find here actually), no we don't all catch crocodiles, no we're not a bunch of racist scum and no we're not a bunch of convicts (well, most of us). But yes, we do like to throw snaggers on the barbie, yes we drink a lot of beer and yes, WE ARE THE GODS OF CRICKET ALL HAIL STEVE WAUGH!

" If you get the **** kicked out of you, don't go and complain. Calling Bush evil and then putting a smiley face is childish and quite stupid. It's also likely to get lots of people upset.

Oh, waaaaaaaaaaaaah. Come on, man. It's the President of the most powerful country in the world, not your friggin mother. For good or for bad he wields enormous power. Some people are always going to consider him evil while others will think he can do no wrong. Still others will have no opinion. Criticism and satire come with public office.

luckily for me, my parents are open to talking about these issues but it is really surprising to hear what info they get from the news there compared to what i hear here. its almost always vastly different.

i hear ya snufkin. badmouth my government and its policies all you want but i start to take offence when people steriotype america and its people (especially me!).

As to my experience, people are MUCH more tolerant in face to face dicussions. To discuss politics or, say, religion on a web forum is a whole different thing. A light joke easily turns into an uncontroled quarrel.

I remember having an interesting talk with an original US marine couple of years ago. We discussed consequences of Washington`s global policy and most of our views remained opposite. Still, we had great time in our local pub, with great background music and tasty beer on the table...

Back to the topic....You could put ANY leader in the photo above and still make a great joke, just in a more local context. It`s just that everybody knows the president of the US.

peace

DanG -- Lighten up. Criticism of our leaders, and humor at their expense, has a long history in the U.S., going back to the early days just after the Revolutionary War.

Here's another great GWB quote:

"I know how hard it is for you to put food on your family."

I agree with Russ, Bushisms are great.

If I couldn't laugh at him I would have to cry.

Oh, BTW

"Natural gas is hemispheric. I like to call it hemispheric in nature because it is a product that we can find in our neighborhoods."

Well Flasken, as someone who voted for W. in 2000 (realizing I am in the verbal minority) and has every intention of doing so again in 2004, I got a grin from the pic. I think that most of those of us that voted for him are confident enough in our decision and him to take it.

hmmm...I guess that makes me an Ork?

Just because we lost... erm, 4-1 was it?...

No need to rub our noses in it

Okay, sorry -- but there's just one more George W. Bush quote I have to post because it's so funny:

"It's important for us to explain to our nation that life is important. It's not only life of babies, but it's life of children living in, you know, the dark dungeons of the Internet."

October 24, 2000, from a speech delivered in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
