SONGsanmanwah: since you have the mylarones and the er4s, how would you say they compare to each other?

LOL my ER-4S just arrived today and I'm still dizzy from my first time with tri-flange. What I can tell from a very limit time with best source at hands (my PC - I have no amp at the moment) is that the X3s seem to share some characteristics with the Ety i.e. fast, lively bass but of course not as refined. The gap on instruments separation and imaging is huge between the two. However, the X3s' less clinical overall sound kind of give them a laid-back-easy-going-sweet-little-phones thing. I'm sure I won't throw mine away with the arrival of the ER-4S.

So from what you're saying, does that mean the X3 has a accurate sound instead of a fun one with an ample amount of bass impact?

Nope, it just 77Pat specifically asked me to compare them. Not that the X3's sound resemble Etymotic's signature. The X3 is more on the fun camp than analytical IMO.

Actually, there are some who say X3's sound reminds them of UE Triple.Fi's. Too bad I've never tried them myself.

Hope this help.

To those people who were unsure about the M5 and the X3s, heres what I got from a fellow head-fier who actually bought them both:

tstarn06-Yes, to my ears they are as bassy as the M5s, and while I can't exactly articulate why, I just prefer the overall sound of the X3s. I love detail (hence, my ER4Ps), and the detail on the X3s is cleaner to me than the M5s. Also, the X3s are more efficient, as I need less volume to listen. I like that too. I hardly every use the Ksc35s, don't really like the clip on thing. But I love these X3s, and I am going to sell my M5s and buy another paid of X3s for reserve (also Winston has a deal for $67 you get X3s and a set of other canal phones).

I have Creative players, and using the Pop EQ setting is perfect for the X3s. Either that or no EQ.

Hey, I'm not even knocking the M5s. I just prefer the X3s and at 1/3rd the price, it's a smart "hi-fi, low budget" move.

Keep in mind that tsarn06 later went on to say this about the m5 vs. X3.

Good point. I really didn't give the M5s a chance, until trying out a lot of different tips. Glad I didn't give up. It goes to show how important fit is with IEMs and canalphones. Feel sort of silly for choosing the X3s over the M5s so strongly, but hey, we make mistakes. Just glad I gave the M5s another shot. I'm keeping both, and will use them both depending on the listening situation.

I even own a pair of old FS softwear custom tips (for my old EM3s). Set me back $185. But they also didn't do justice to the M5s. The fit is fine, but the tip of the M5 post is too far from my inner ear. Bass drops way off. What a waste! I ordered the M5s hoping they would work with the custom sleeves. No go.
