Headroom MicroStack Maxed or HeadRoom Desktop Portable Amp/DAC

Yes you read it right. I have my gun pointed at those two right now.

I am pretty much settled with my iMod + SuperMicro-IV + ER-4S as my "ultraportable" rig - them rig goes with me everywhere now.

BUT because I am a head-fier and this cursed place have that pulsating charm that is the upgraditis, I have been losing sleep pondering what a DAP/Optical/DAC/Amp would sound like. And I had chanced upon the opportunity to own an iRiver H120 through a trade for my HD600 - so the itch has becoming more and more to the point of driving me nuts! With a DAP that has optical out, what would I do? ......a quick check at my pocket tells me that I may have that room to build a "barely portable rig" that will be my "I can carry my home audiophile rig anywhere" setup

So here it goes

First Choice:
HeadRoom MicroDAC & MicroAMP (Desktop Module) : $600

Second Choice:
HeadRoom Desktop Portable Amp + Home Module + DAC Option: $947

Now there's that $348 gap between these two and yet they are supposed to deliver similar sonic bliss. The question is, will a "HeadRoom Desktop Portable Amp + Home Module + DAC Option" provide better sonic performance than a maxed MicroStack?

Things to consider:
- I am a hardcore ETYMOTIC ER-4S junkie
- I don't care about battery life
- I dont care much about the size - as long as they live on battery I could always mod my way around it.

So those that have experienced the above stated system, please kick some senses into me before I start going trigger happy

I never had a chance to listen to HR Desktop version but I have HR Microstack with desktop module since last October. One of my favorite combo for listening music is with my ER4S and Microstack. I am a very long time ER4S user. My ER4S has been traveling literally around the world with me and I love the sound signature. And one of my absolute favorite amp for ER4S is Microamp with desktop module. I don't have urge to upgrade my Microstack anytime soon as long as I still use ER4S. I also like how DT880/250 sounding with Microamp.

Both of u, thanks. But really I am more torn right now between the two.

Jamey, I will PM u on this issue. It seems that HeadRoom is not taking any orders from Malaysia. Tyll have advised me to seek your help.
