Snagged myself a matched pair of Amperex 6DJ8 orange globes.Looking forward to trying these,will post my findings.

I use a pair of Ei 6DJ8 (the regular, not the gold pin, not the elite) in the DAC section, and have used these for over a year. The sound is absolutely terrific, detailed with a good amount of air, deep tight bass. This was the tube recommended in Bound for Sound for the Monarchy M24 in the original review of the DAC. These Ei tubes were cheap (only about $5 tube) but I had some problems with noise with several tubes. I think it took 3 pairs before I found the pair I am currently using. I think something happened to the Ei factory a couple of years ago, and so I am not sure how available these are anymore (I bought mine from BOI Audioworks, who are currently out of the tube).

Other tubes recommended in issue 180 of Bound for Sound for the Monarchy DAC are: Sovtek ECC88WA and the Sylvania 6KN8. These particular Sovteks are pretty hard to find.

Mr. Sawdust, please post your findings with the Amperex as you experience them.

Hi Cobra.Have you tried running your HD600 out of the line stage yet?
My HD650 sounded superb with the adaptor i had made up.

Yes, I have. I have the home-made looking RCA to 1/4 inch adapter put together by Monarchy. I use Tungsram (I think 6922) tubes in the linestage, and every time I listen to my Sennheiser 600 headphones through this I always say: this sounds stunning. This set-up has a full, rich sound, with strong bass -- very satisfying. I use this set-up as a benchmark for tuning my other set-ups.

That's the way I feel with the Ei tubes in the DAC section. Sounds so good that I have not yet felt the need to try other tubes here.

My biggest problem with my set-up is the transport -- the NAD CD player jumps and skips and does not dependably spin my CDs.

I eventually found the JJ Teslas to be a bit too noisy (although I am still using them right now for some reason). I actually came around to the stock JAN Phillips. I still haven't picked up a pair of NOS Teslas yet tube rolling for my WA6 got in the way.

Got my Tesla gold pins from Langrex in the UK.They are the Checkoslovakian postal service tubes with the crossed swords and 32 in yellow print.Not particularly cheap at £12 each plus shipping,but worth every penny sonically in my opinion.

Not really had time for a long session with the amperex orange globes,but so far i am enjoying them.More detail without being analytical and a bit more forward sounding than the tesla gold pins with a solid bass response.

Bought a pair of Ei 6dj8 and while quite enjoyable sounding,did not find them as engaging as the amperex 6dj8 orange globe with disc getter.The amperex have far more punch and drive and have a wider and deeper sound field,absolutely superb.

Guys, I need to get an smaller source plus I am in the hunt for an AKG K1000. So my Monarchy NM24 and matching Monarchy AC Regenerator is up for sale in the source for sale sub-forum.

Your gonna want a smooth, resolving source like the Monarchy with a tubed output stage with the AKG K1000's, Miguel.
What do you mean by "smaller"?
