Probably a bit like the Amperex tubes - somewhat smoother, richer sounding than the JAN Philips tubes.

ciphercomplete when you say JJ Teslas are you talking about:

If so that is interesting since they are fairly cheap. Thanks.

^Yep. But I think I am going to try the NOS Teslas after these settle in a bit.

Last week i received a good quality rca phono to 1/4 adaptor which i had made for me.It has made a pleasantly surprising improvement to the resolution of fine detail i am hearing through my HD650's.
Just pulled the trigger on a pair of Tesla E88CC goldpins for the dac section also.
Absolutely love my NM24.

Forgot to add that the adaptor i was previously using was a crappy thing i bought for £1.49.

^ hope you enjoy your adapter. I bought one made by S2 Audio and it is a thing of beauty at a very modest price. Can only say good things about S2 Audio and their service was super fast.

Don't forget to post impressions for the goldpins.

A couple of days after i fitted the tesla goldpins,my teac p-700 transport decided to go **** up!
For the moment i am using my old trusty teac vrds 10se as my transport and to my ears the goldpins do sound slightly smoother, but their main attribute IMO is an increase in ambient detail, the space around instruments and sounds if you catch my drift.
Hope that makes sense.its not night and day but definately there.

Hmmm.... sounds alot like the JJ Teslas. The JJs have a sweet sound, almost too sweet sometimes though. I think I will pick up some of the gold pins and do a comparison.

Has anyone tried the JAN Sylvania 6992 or 6DJ8s? How do they sound compared to the JAN Phillips?
You are absolutely right cipher, these are very sweet sounding tubes.Something else i have noticed is increased depth of soundstage.
Very enjoyable to these ears :-)

The JJs are starting to sound a little too laid back for me. I just ordered some JAN Sylvanias NOS. I'll post impressions after a while.

The JJs are still awesome tubes I just have to take a break from all that smooth sweetness.

Yes! The JAN Sylvania NOS 6922 tubes are the perfect tubes for this DAC. If you own this DAC then you have to own these tubes. I'll post more detailed impressions in a while.

Is that just for the DAC section Cipher?
I only bought one pair so I have only tried them in the DAC section so far.

These tubes are basically just like the stock JAN Phillips except there is very little harshness in the upper midrange/lower treble and the bass has a bit more extension. I would imagine that they will sound equally good in the line out section.

Thought i would give this thread a kickstart as i know a few members have this dac and was wondering, has anyone got any tube rolling experiences to share?
I have been very happy with the Tesla E88CC gold pins, beautiful midrange and smooth highs if not the last word in low end heft.I tried NOS JAN Sylvanias for a while but they didn't impress me too much.Plenty of drive and slam but found the all important midrange hard and uninvolving.
So many makes and variants:6922/E88CC/ECC88/6DJ8/7308.
