Sony PRD-250 (I'm new)

Hey guys, I'm new to these forums. Everything looks awesome, can't wait to dive in here.

Ok, so right now I'm listening to CD's on a Sony PRD-250 with Sony MDR-V6 phones. The PRD-250 is really a portable CD-Rom drive, so I don't know what I'd be expecting in sound... but it's made in Japan - so I figured it was worth the $5 I paid for it at Goodwill . Now that it's quiet and I've had some time to listen, it sounds crummy. I've been wanting to upgrade to a Sony D-NE20, thinking this will sound alot better.

So my question is: will upgrading to the D-NE20 sound substantially better, or do I need nicer headphones also?
I'm on a budget (but who isn't :P), so I can't really go out and spend a thousand bucks on this stuff... what do you guys recommend?

Thanks in advance!

Well, I figured out what the problem was. I thought the headphones just sucked, but after I ran the CD player through a home Pioneer amp - it sounds great .

Good times .

You know, a dedicated headphone amp, even if its portable, would sound better (y)

But first you should save up for better headphones. The order of upgradtitis comes first with Headphones, amp <-> source, and others.
